Permanent Paper Training Is there anyone out there in Yorkie Land who has permanently paper trained their Yorkie and has had success? I am thinking of trying that with Gracey since we went through a rough time with our 14 1/2 year old Shandi when she developed Kidney disease at 14 years and it made it hard for her to wait until we got home from work to go to the bathroom and I felt so bad that she couldn't just go when she needed to. This way Gracey will not have to wait until we get home to go to the bathroom if we are away for longer than a few hours. |
Daisy is only nine months but she hates the outside, she will not move on a harness , potty , run nothing. She is exclusively paper trained , it works for us . When we take here to my parents they place the pads down in the same place as always and she is trained there also.It really is a blessing because it is so cold here and she would freeze outside.lol |
Our daughter pee pad trained her puppy due to living on a 3rd floor. |
3 of my 4 are pad trained. The 2 I trained from day one to use pads will not go outside to pee at all. The other one that is pad trained is the 16 year old male I took in last year and he was trained to go outside but instantly took to the pads. Which is good because beong older he pees a lot and can go whenever he needs to. He will pee outside too when I let Pixie out who would not train to the pads. I got her at 13 months and training period has been a challenge. |
Joey's pad trained as well, but I use washable pads, it's better for the environment. I agree with you, you never have to worry about them trying to hold it and if they get sick or old, it will be easier if they are already pad trained. |
Kaji's pad trained as well. (he's 2 now) He doesn't get to go outside Mon-Fri. He has one pad in the bathroom, and has learned to "knock" (scratch at door) to be let in the bathroom if the door is closed. Works out great! For those that have washable pads: How many do you have? How often to you wash? Where do you store them until you have a load full of pads to wash? |

I wash them everyday. I fold them, pee side in and lay them on my laundry room floor if I can't throw them in right away. I only wash them two at a time because I feel they wash better if the machine isn't stuffed. I usually throw them in as soon as I pick them up, unless there is another load in the machine at the time. |

[QUOTE=Nancy1999;3399630]I have about 15 I made out of white towels I found on sale, and then I bought another 5 more that have a waterproof pad underneath. When Joey was a puppy, he'd only go one time on a pad, so I needed white so I could see the mark, otherwise he'd go on the carpet. Now that he's older, he doesn't go as often, but it's a larger amount so the store-bought pads work better, and I've just been putting the homemade ones on top of them, so I have no mistakes on carpet. I wash once a week, and never run out. I like to do a full load as not to waste water, and you shouldn't wash with other things. I keep a pad upstairs and one downstairs where he prefers to do his pooping in privacy. I store the dirty pads in wicker baskets, it's so dry here there's never of an odor problem, but you could use a diaper pail if that's a problem. The ones I purchased are very thin, but very absorbent, and when I have more of them, I'll get rid of the homemade ones.[/QUOTE I use the disposable ones...even the dollar store here carries them. I am training a litter of puppies to use them. They are now 7 weeks and they hit the spot about 75% of the time. Their momma hates them but has used them in the past(I think by mistake lol). She goes outside and I hate that because it's cold here, we have hawks, owls and the hunters say we have alot of bear tracks in our woods. I am not a seamstress but how would you make the washable ones? |

I have four that are pad trained. They will all go outside if we are out or at someone's home that has a doggie door. We use disposable. |
I have harley trained to go on a grid. There is a picture of it at http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/tra...while-ago.html I like it because it's not as expensive as potty pads, doesn't smell like the grass and is easy to clean. I keep two around the house because he doesn't like to poo and pee on the same one. |

Kinder is pee pad trained and it works out for us. Our last yorkie had IBD so it was nice for her to go on her pee pad. With Kinder we can go all over shopping and I just put a pee pad down; she goes potty. |
Confine the yorkie to an area when you cant watch her all the time and line the area with pads then each day take one up unill she is using the one and then when she has that down move the pad to where you want her to go in the house |
Yes, we have had success here. I can honestly say that Piccolo is 100% paper trained and prefers that to doing her business outside. But, for whatever reason, she does not like the puppy pads and it certainly took me awhile to figure that one out. |
