Still No word On Missing Yorkie Puppy
 

It has been 2 days now trying to find a young pups family. I am doing what I can to find the orginal owners. Thanks to YT folks.
She looks healthy though, stalky build. However, I am finding it very hard to feed her. She will not eat much at all. I am thinking she had been recieviing people food... I have fed her boiled beef, she liked it a little , and ate more when hand fed, then would not touch it again. Tried a little scrambled egg , plain and mixed it with the beef, she would not touch that. I cave her a few spoonfuls of canned chicken , organic from wellness and she liked that, then would not touch or eat that . I finally found out that she loves plain chicken, no grease ..... or anything on it. I never had a picky eater . my 2 girls eat well no problems . I have tried a little bread , nothing.
Could it be that it is just a new place for her? She is out of her element . I know if my brother did not pick her up off a busy street when she was so cold, shivering , she would have not have survived in these cold temps. She was so smelly and matted as well. Not anymore though.
not even sure of her age, however she did try to mount Suzi, my other yorkie yesterday, so I am thinking maybe 5 months old?
This is more difficult then I thought it would be. Finding her owners, wondering why she was in such bad condition, and now the feeding issue.
I know it is not wise to change foods on her, however, if not doind so she would not be eating anything at all.
Is it normal for a yorkie pup to have her tounge stick out a little bit? Sometimes she does that. It is cute, but unsure if that means she is ok or not.
She likes the warm and safe place she lives in now, BUT , if the owners are not looking for her, and their is no chip , just at a loss as what to do.
One more thing is she has had pretty hard stools as well. No blood in it or anything. And she is not straining to have a BM.
Their has not been any throwing up and her eyes are clear. I have placed maple syurp on her gums to make sure she won't go into a hypoglcemia mode.
Trying to do all the right things for this little one while trying to figure out her owners. I am very concerned.

post a found add on craigslist post a pic and the street you found her on. Lucky dog to have a caring smart yorkie owner to find her!

Don't post a pic with the ad, you want the people to be able to identify the pup on their own. Anyone can describe their "lost pup" if there is a picture available. They need to produce a picture of their own, or be able to describe her physically to sort of prove ownership. Don't want this little girl to wind up in the wrong hands.

About the food. The first yorkie I got was from an owner not the original breeder. The owner had always hand fed her baked chicken & rice. I started out doing the same and it is something almost every dog will eat. But I gradually eased her on to kibble as I thought that was the best balanced diet. Your found pup is probably in some emotional turmoil with adapting to a new place, missing her owners and home, along with the ordeal of being out in the weather when she was found. So, eating a little less is to be expected. If you can feed chicken & rice for a few days, while still offering the kibble, that might at least be a way of getting her calories in.

Did you look through the sticky about lost/found dogs? It might help to make sure you cover all your bases. I would definately contact the shelters and animal control. In some places it is the law that you contact animal control. Vets in the area are another good place to take a 3X5 card with your info. They usually have a bulletin board and will let you put up a card for a found dog. I would try to place an ad in the newspaper too -- that is usually the first place owners look. Many times they give you the ad space for free when you are reporting a found pet.

You may wind up never finding the owner so it is good to think through what you will do in that situation. Are you willing and able to take on another pet at this time? If not, then I would have the nearest rescue organization all scoped out and contacted in advance. Unfortunately, many of them are full at this time of year -- not sure if it is the weather or economy or combination of both but hearing they are all being pushed to their limits. Another option would be trying to rehome yourself. Not always an easy thing to do -- as you have to try to do some background investigation without scaring them away. Takes a balance of tact and diplomacy along with sleuthing skills. ;) YT members are a great place to start.

Bless you for taking care of this little one. I know it means a lot of extra work, getting her all cleaned up and trying so hard to find something nutritious she will eat along with tracking down the owners. It may come down to it the only thanks you will get will be a wet kiss and a wagging tail -- but for a dog lover, that is usually enough! Still -- add my thanks in there too. Without you and your brother, this little one would probably not even be alive.

I agree with the recommendation of chicken and rice. Use a skinless breast to avoid too much fat, and bake or simmer in water, then shred. Cook rice in water. No butter or seasoning in the chicken or the rice. I started out with about 1/4 chicken to 1 rice and added a little more chicken with each meal until I had a 1:1 combo. I also put them in the blender (adding a little of the defatted broth from cooking the chicken if the mix was too gooey). This kept Tallulah from picking out the chicken. If you warm it up a little (not too hot) the aroma might make it more tempting for the puppy.

Shadow's tongue used to hang out a bit when she was younger. Now it's only when she's sleeping. She's 8 mos.

I think you have gone above and beyond in your efforts. I know you are doing your best.. this little guy is lucky to have your for sure:p

Thank you for updating us... you guys have been on my mind alot..I am so surprised no one has phoned the shelters looking for her...But if you have done your part in phoning them to report finding her,, like the others have said it might be time for you to start thinking about what you are going to do with her...most shelters will not put down what apears to be a full blooded animal....they try to go thru the rescues, If it were me, I would want to be the one to chose where she would go...I would phone and talk to them and pick the one I liked best..I know you said you were not able to keep her due to the landlords policies...this is to bad...you sound like a very good home for her. Wishing you all the best!! Oh, and yes, some of these little guys love to show that cute little tounge....sounds normal to me...

Honestly, with her being about 5-ish months based on your observations I think it may be possible someone "let" her out. She may have been a Christmas Puppy who wound up being more work than the owner expected. Obviously, keep trying to find her owners but if you know you aren't ready to take on another pup, I'd start getting a hold of rescues and let them know of the situation. I'm positive that they'll be able to help you :) thanks for stepping up for this little lady.

I'm so glad you are taking such good care of this poor baby. I hope maybe if you can't find the owners you will take her into your home, but in any case bless you for being a great person. To answer your question, both my yorkie and my shokie stick their tongue out sometimes I don't really think it means anything although sometimes mine do that when they're thirsty and sometimes when they get nervous.

Sometimes, when someone loses a pet, they may be elderly, and not really know how to search.

Thank you YT members for all your support . I am going through a bad time emotionally, because my brother is moving accross the USA very soon. We did not grow up together, we were all separated by CPS at young ages. I say this because I am already grieving for the loss of my biological brother.... And he was the one who found this baby pup.
If I have exhausted all efforts of locating the owners , I am thinking about tring to have my DR. write a letter stating that she would be a service dog. We do have 2 already . However , the thought of losing this puppy could send me completely over the edge.... If the circumstances do not change, and the owner does not come forward, i am really falling for this little gal. Caring for her these last few days and literally having to "rescue" her from the ailments has giving me a real attatchment towards her. I never have done this before. The 2 I have came from a Breeder , not from either being lost or let out on purpose.
I can't imangine anyone doing that , but her condition was just awful when found.
About the eating , she really loves chicken, and today she ate some mixed with Wellness canned , organic kind. Plus she eats better when I hand feed her for some reason.
My son actually named her. We call her Emma . This little yorkie pup looks very much like the standard breed. She has more gold on her face and legs then my Suzi, who is a darker colored yorkie.
It is day 3 having her , and the longer she is here the easier it is for her. Since Suzi and Miely are so small, perhaps their would be a chance my Doctor would write the letter. It would be legit. Both my son and I are disabled.
If nobody claims her , I am always going to be bothered by the way she was found and looked.
If the dog catcher found her she surely would of been PTS. Their are many dogs always running loose in this small town. Lots of Chi's . I live in a community that are primarily hispanic , not a problem, it is just that their are truely way too many little dogs running around the streets . You have to slam on your brakes going through neighborhoods to avoid hitting either cats or dogs.
If I had a chance to keep her , then YES I would.

Have you taken her to the area vet clinic to see if they know who she belonged to?

It sounds a lot like East LA. I hate driving to work, so many dogs loose on the street. I almost hit 3 in the last 6 months. I want to get a free s/n program to come out here and fix all the dogs that are running around and those for low income families. No more dogs breeding in the streets!

Our town is very small, we do not have a local vet . Th nearest vet hospitals or clinincs is a 45min drive. I did have her scanned by the dog catcher. No chip. No collar, no ID tags , nothing.

I am hearing how much you want to keep this puppy in your post. What have you done to find the owners? Please don't neglect to try all avenues to find the owners because subconsciously you want to keep her. That is a natural feeling, especially if you thought she was not in the best of shape -- but remember, it does not take long for a yorkie to look pretty messed up when out in the elements without a daily brushing. She may well have an owner in tears praying for her return. Maybe an elderly owner who has no one in the world but this little dog to keep them company, maybe a child who loves this little one more than anything, a handicapped person who cannot get out and about easily but loves her little dog..... so many things can happen to accidently set one loose and then one wrong turn and the pup is lost, or it could have even been stolen and then got away from the thieves....so please make sure you do everything you can, contact all the shelters, animal control, vets, and rescues in your area to make sure you have given the pup a good chance of being reunited with its owner.

Thank you Debra, I am trying to do all of this. Thinking it as if this were my puppy how I'd feel , I understand the importance of looking for the owner. I have not stoppted doind so.

do your best.. if the puppy was meant to be your it will happen ..but your heart will always feel guilty if you don't do ALL you can to find her home.
