The nerve of some people!!
 

My mom works with a lady who is a "back-yard breeder". She breeds maltipoo's. Well, lately she has started breeding morkies. My mom let it slip that I have a male yorkie and the lady flipped out. She wanted to know all about him, what his registration was, etc. Then she had the nerve to tell my mom to let me know that I should not fix him so she could breed him to one of her Maltese females. :eek::eek::mad:!! She then went on begging not to fix him because she gets $1,200 a puppy for a Morkie. Sick, sick, sick. I am so glad I wasn't there she wouldve got an earful. People that call themselves "breeders" like this make me sick.

It is all about the money. That is all they see is dollar signs. So sad. Good for you for not doing this. Maybe you should give her an earful!! :D

I would never, he is getting fixed as soon as he gets old enough and I find te perfect vet I trust. Yes, it's all about the money. They don't care about anything not even the health of the puppies or mama.

I really don't get how people can look at a cute fuzzy dog and see money. I admit, I've sold animals for profit, but those were horses. They are working animals that I trained and rode as a profession. Even then I NEVER bred an animal with view to profit. UGH. Plus the horses I trained were troubled, and I trained and re-homed most of them. Some dog people confuse me.

deonk1 I am with you. We have a breeder in this area that prides herself on producing under 4lb adults. I can only imagine how small a 12 week old puppy is if they are going to be under 4lbs as an adult. She selld them for 1200 to 2500. She says that they cost more because they are so tiny. She is right about that. Without careful breeding (Sire and Dam being tested) the tiny litters will cost more - to the owners in vet bills.

I do not call her a BYB because I have never investigated her practices and such but she does seem to be focused on the cost of the puppy.

I do not understand people though that will pay that much for a mixed breed. Yes they come from purebreed lines but the litter is still a mix. I have seen beautiful "mutts" out there but I would not pay 1500 for him/her. I think if the public stopped paying the price then some of these BYB's would have to stop or at least reduce the price. If they are not making a huge profit on each litter it might just discourage them all together.

I have a friend who is a breeder. Her records are kept in order, litters tracked, Sire/Dames tested, kennels cleaned twice a day, etc. She does not breed for the money, she breeds because she loves the breed and enjoys what she does. She always has beautiful puppies and awesome representations of the breed as her puppies grow into adulthood.

Why is it so hard sometimes to be able to tell a bad breeder from a good one. It seems like the bad ones have "learned the script" and know the right answers now. :(

Sorry I rambled on. This is just such a tough subject for me. I am going to have to make myself stay away from threads like this. I lost a puppy at 6mos who had been breed by a BYB. It was before I knew better and it was a heartbreaking and expensive lesson to learn. My puppy's parents were half brother and sister. She had an very enlarged heart and severe liver shunt. She had a really bad seizure one night, went to sleep and never woke up. RIP Danika Grace.

I am so sorry for your loss, didn't mean to upset you it's just something I feel strongly about. I have also bought from a horrible place when I was younger. I had NO idea about puppies, breeders, or anything of that nature. So, I purchased a maltipoo(not from this lady). He lives with my mom now and he's 4 years old. He is healthy, knock on wood. But about a year after I got him I realized how awful this place was. Of course, I didnt pay $1,200 or even close to that. I am so glad I know now and I would never do that again. We just got lucky that he is healthy because this breeder has tons of sick tiny puppies. I just had no idea. Anyway, I am terribly sorry for your loss.

Thank you. It was a sad lesson to learn. You feel so helpless when the vet sends you home week after week with medication to try to help her with the symptoms. He finally decided after 3 long weeks to refer us to a specialist. She made it for one visit. She was going to get scheduled for surgery to take care of the Liver Shunt when she passed away. She was only 5lbs and had the heart the size of a lab puppy for her age. When I approached the breeder they said that it must have been something that she got into with me because this was their second litter from this pair and I was the only one to have a problem. After the necropsy was done they spayed their female. I am glad that of the 4 puppies that were born from the 2 litters that only my little girl suffered but I would have preferred that she had not either. They did not even have the parents pedigree.
When I got my Yorkies I checked their lines to make sure there were no cross overs for 4 generations back. They have good lines.

Good for you, but I wonder why she wants to know "who" he's registered with, why would it make a difference? Does she want to say only "AKC purebred" dogs were used to make her mixes? I have seen that on some websites. :rolleyes:

Yep, she only uses AKC Parents to produce a CKC puppy. Remy is AKC but limited registration. She doesn't understand why anyone would buy a pup with limited reg. Ha :rolleyes: go figure.

You mentioned that you're waiting for your lil' guy to be old enough to fix...if he is over 4 months old, he is old enough. Please find a reputable Veterinarian or Spay/Neuter Clinic asap.

By the way...if you haven't found a Veterinarian as of yet...has your puppy been vaccinated:confused:

1-Purebred AKC Yorkie + 1-Purebred AKC Maltese = a litter of Un-Purebred Mutts

Of course, he is vaccinated! :eek: who wouldn't get their puppy vaccinated? He also been to the vet for his anal sacs. He is five months old and I will get him neutered when I am comfortable with it. Yes, it will be soon. I have a wonderful vet but I still need to do more research.

No need for the :eek: response...my comments were not to imply you were not doing what you should but, encouraging you incase you felt he might be too young to be neutered.

If you don't mind...may I ask what you are exactly researching about neutering your male. Does he have an issue that you are concerned about and that might make him at risk for the procedure?

By the way...see my Avatar? That is Gracie, the little "8 month" old female I am fostering who not only was not spayed but, also did not receive the rest of her puppy shots or rabies vaccine since her owner had her shipped from the Breeder...it happens much more than you'd imagine.;)
