Will I ever? Will I ever find a place that allows dogs? They need more places for rent that allow puppies? :( My fiance and i are looking for a place that allows dogs but we are having no luck yet we just keep looking!! We want to move somewhere close or around the area we live in! :( |
I feel your pain. The only high rise in my city that allows dogs is a slum lord type operation, with hundreds of dogs. We had a pit and 2 german shepards on our floors, plus they had a huge bed bug and cockroach infestation. Add on 6 months of exterior construction and poor Harley never got outside in that place Spent 2 years there, found a private rental, it's still not great, but it's perfect for Harley. I encourage you to look for private rentals rather than mass property. (I'm assuming your looking for rentals?) |

I know how hard it is to find an apartment that allows pets. Are you going through a real estate agent? They usually know where the pet friendly places are. We ended up buying a home because in New York it's almost impossible. |
It's not that much better here in LA. Everywhere that accepts pets charge an arm and a leg for the pet deposit and pet rent. I don't think I'll ever be moving out of my parent's apt at this rate. |
I have found that it is better if you find a smaller place and not a big building because then the landlords tend to be a lot more lenient because if they own a huge complex they can't make an exception for you and not for other people. I live in a building that has 8 units. When our landlord puts a place up for rent he doesn't say you can have pets but if you talk to him he will let you if he meets the pet. There are only 2 of us with pets. I wouldn't ask if it says NO PETS but I would definitely ask if it doesn't say cuz it doesn't hurt to ask. |
We are getting a puppy next month. The townhouse we live in now didnt allow animals, but we talked the land lord into letting us pay a little extra a month so we can have her. Maybe you can try that!?! |
I also agree with the above poster but, instead of suggesting paying a little bit each month...just offer a pet security deposit so, that in the event you make this new place your long term home, you aren't paying for the puppies "rent" each month for several years...kwim? |
I feel your pain!! I was looking for an apartment that would allow 3 dogs. I finally found one...and it's not a super nice apartment and it's quite expensive. Now, I only have two because we had to rehomed the other one. Our on site manager doesn't even care how many dogs we have, but then when it comes to problems with the apartment, he is never on top of it! There's pros and cons. You will find one, just keep looking! |

Thx Guys u are very helpfully! Those are good ideas! One place we looked at allows cats only i dont understand cause a yorkie is just as small as a cat i even offered to litter train it or for it to use the potty patch i wanted to teach my puppy how to go out side and inside anyways but it didnt work i tried. We are looking at duplexes and apartments we might have some luck with deplex idk. But i think if they have a yard and u clean up after ur dog u should get to have one. Their needs to be more places that allow animals we should all protest..lol Who knows we might find one but if we dont i will just have to wait intill we get a house someday. We cant offord alot for a place right now. :( We have a certain budget we want to spend on rent a month. But thank you all for ur info and help. Hopefully i will find something! :animal-pa |
Check out private rentals (i.e., people that individually own a house or condo and are renting it out). I rent out a condo in DC and while the company I pay to manage the property recommends not allowing pets, I have a flexible policy towards it (i.e., if someone comes to me and has a pet and appears to be a responsible pet owner, I will allow it). The individual owner has MUCH more flexibility than large apartment complexes. That said, in the DC Metro area, we are having more and more rental options open up for people with pets, mainly because so many people have dogs here. There is always power in numbers! |
Personally I think there should be a law prohibiting landlords to not allow dogs in a building. There are too many people giving up their dogs because they are forced to move and they can't find a place that allows dogs. The shleters are filled with dogs because of this. Don't people realize that if there were more places that allow dogs the shelters and rescues would have some relief. I get so mad when I think about this. |
