I am so mad! My nephew's step-daughter bought a Bichon two years ago. She recently moved back home with the family. The family moved into their new house at the same time. Today they gave Bentley away because he pees in the new house. They threatened to give Bentley away last fall because he chewed on the stairs. The step-daughter was supposed to let me know before they gave him away. I can't believe I am related to someone who would do that. I am worried sick for Bentley. |
I'm so sorry, do you know where Bentley went? I honestly don't understand how people can do this, but maybe Bentley is in a better home. People, who don't take the time to learn how to housebreak their dogs, are really bad owners. This is often the number one reason for rehoming. A dog moving to a new house often has set backs especially if other dogs have lived there before, he will mark places the other dogs marked, but this should stop in a few weeks. |
poor bentley, i can never get my head around things like that, having kept the pet for 2 years, i could not imagine doin without my babies, or givin them away:eek: lets hope bentley went to a good home x |
I don't know where Bentley went. That's the sad part. If the new family doesn't want him then what? They have a Golden Retriever, why can't they take Bentley out when they take him out? This tells me they must leave the Retriever outside or in the garage. The last time I was there they did not have an outdoor shelter for him. The part I don't get, my nephew's wife works from home, with three adults why can't someone work with him? To just give him away? I will never understand. |

I am sorry that they did not give you the chance to take him. It breaks my heart when people can give away a dog that has been apart of their family. I believe almost any bad dog behavior can be corrected with a little love patience and . I don't understand how people can just give up a dog so easy. When you get a dog it should be a lifetime commitment, no dog is perfect and either are we. |

I'll never understand people that give away pets. Isn't that like giving away one of your children? I work with a gal that lost everything due to a house fire about a month and a half ago...well the only thing that was spared was her almost 2 year old yorkie... SO, I agreed to babysit him for her until her house was re-built. A week into it, she decided she "didn't want him back'' WHAT? Umm. Okay.. so now he is mine and I can't for a second imagine letting him go. Yay for me... :) |
It's too bad she didn't remember that you wanted him before she gave him to someone else but hopefully he is better off. Do you think she charged a rehoming fee and didn't feel comfortable charging you? Will she tell you who has him? Maybe you could "follow up" with them to see if all is going well, if not, they might be willing to let you take him even if they charge a rehoming fee it would be worth it to get him. I'm so sorry this has happened, good luck and let us know if you find out anything. |

Soooo sad. I had a family member like this too. Well, she married my uncle. They got a Yorkie/Silky from a pet store (after meeting Jackson) and after about a month, she just gave him away because "he was a pain in the butt" (she gave him to her sister, but still... I can't imagine just "throwing" an animal away). I always stress to people how much I've worked with Jackson and a dog doesn't just come knowing what to do. You have to TEACH them. Just like you would a child. |
I would call her & remind her that she had previously promised to let you know as she knew you wanted to take the dog. Push the issue & maybe you can get him back. |
