Help Me Stay Sane!!! As several of you know, I adopted Deb's half sister about a week ago. She is about a month younger than Deb (Deb is almost 5 months and Maya is almost 4 months old) and her breeder had some health issues and needed to find fast homes for her babies. Maya has been with us for about 2 weeks and is really doing great. She and Deb get along most of the time. About 4 days ago they discovered a new game. They shred the pee pads. I dont mean a little...I mean totally destroy them. Of course they pee on them first. They are left alone for a few hours at a time...and each time I come home....I have a HUGE mess to clean up. Last night, they did not shred the pads at all! Such good girls.....NOT. I have never seen anything like this. They must have each pooped 5 times. And most of it was on the completly intact pads....the rest of it.....smeared all over the floor. I mean ALL OVER...the entire area of their pen was covered. Their bed was covered...their toys covered....even the sides of the pen. It was not loose stool....I think they played in it....they were both soooo smelly and nasty.....as I came down the stairs I knew I smelled something.....as I entered the kitchen, my two angels were sitting there quietly waiting for me to come see the gifts they left me :( Are they trying to make me nuts??? And yes, after I cleaned them both up ...and their pen area..I went to take a shower. I came back...and the pads...both shredded :( HELP!!!! |
i feel your pain..well not really cause i have only one for now.. try getting a pad holder, see if that works. the ones with the plastic bottom so no mess goes on the floor and just the frame on the top...good luck. |
 Sounds like they had fun! YUCK!!! I don't think they like to be alone. Maybe you should leave the radio on, and put some extra toys out. hmmmmm Good Luck! :) |
messy I have the xpen set up in a big rectangle. In a corner of the house. I put a pad on the far side of it next to the wall and I put 3 of the sides of the pad pinned under the xpen. Then I put the toys and blanket etc on the opposite side, where I pick them up so they're not jumping on the pad when they see me. My pug Bailey and Brandy only go on the "potty" side to relieve themselves. Hope this helps! |
I already have the holders....I use two of them since my spoiled babies prefer to pee and poo on seperate pads. They somehow manage to pull them out of the trays!!! I have even tried spraying Bitter Apple on the trays and the pads. It slows them...but does not stop them! They never did this until Saturday. I bought Wal-Mart pads that day. Do you think there is any chance it is the brand? Could there be something in that pad that causes them to want to do this or just a coincidence??? |

I think I will do that this afternoon. I think it seems like more than a coincidence too. Of course the reason I bought them at WalMart is because I could get a big pkg for less money. But I have gone through about 30 pads since Saturday night! UGH!!! |
I don't believe that there is something in the pads . This is a puppy phase . What if you change the pads and they continue ? All puppies do that at a moment or another . You should have seen Gazou and Heidi when they decided to have a ball with wee pads . |
I am so sorry, but as sucky is that is...I had to laugh out loud!!! ISnt it cute tho??? Ok no seriously, Dollar eats his pads too. I dont have any advice except for to maybe seperate them? |

I feel your pain!!!!!!!!! I kinda laughed also while reading your story & trying to picture them with the mess all around them. I know it isn't funny. I went through it for a while but mine eventually stopped. When they weren't pinned up anymore. It was like they were punishing me for leaving them. Good Luck!!!! Hope it is just the new brand of potty pads you purchased. |
Man!....When I saw the title of your thread I thought it was going to be an invitation for a week at the beach!!! I think that is where my sanity lays....somewhere o u t t h e r e !! :p I don't have any advice....if I close mine in with a pee pad, it gets chewed up too. |
Check this out.. Might work for you! Hope they start behaving for you soon! http://www.wizdog.com/index.php |
The great thing about puppies are their playfulness and not so great is all the things they can get into, poopy included. I did not use puppy pads so I'm afraid I haven't any suggestions but this did remind me of the day Chloe chewed up my wallpaper, right off the wall, guess she got bored and I found all my new wallpaper in shreds on the floor. There's something about tearing up paper things....... |
What a Yucky mess to clean up huh? My little boy use to tear the pads up too. I just kept telling him no. |
