new owner of 1 year old dog 1 Attachment(s) Ok, I am talking about our new chi, but same thing would apply to yorkies I think. We just got a yr old unneutered male. We also have a 8 month old pom (male), 6 year old Yorkie (female) and 3 yr old chi (female). all are fixed but the newbie. They are getting along really good. The only issue we are having is the new guy is spraying everywhere, apparently never potty trained. The others use potty pads. We plan to get him neutered asap but he is already used to lifting his leg. My questions: any chance he will quit doing it once neutered? Or at least not as much once he is comfortable with his surroundings? Anything else we should watch for? We have never brought in a dog at this age, always gotten puppies. Any thoughts? thanks! |
Maybe he wouldn't spray so much after being neutered. I would ask the vet. Also, he just might be marking his territory. letting everyone know that the new kid is here!!:) |
No advice, I only have girls :p. Good luck and hopefully somone will be able to help you. |
Neutering will help some with territorial marking, but it sounds like he's pretty well fixed in his idea of "this is how I potty". Belly bands may be your biggest help while you are potty training him. |
When I brought Nikki in he was around 15-16 years old but neutered. We have no idea when he was neutered, but he started using the pee pads immediately even though he had never used them before. I think it was because my girls were using the pads and he just followed them. Hopefully once he is neutered and with some training he will adjust to using the pee pads. Congratulations. He is a cutie. |
