Thin hair on puppy legs I have a 3 month old Yorkie and I am concerned about the hair on her legs. It seems quite thin compaired to the rest of her body. She looks like one fluffy hair ball and than the legs are more wolly feeling. Is this normal? Her other hair doesn't seem real silky (except for her head), does the texture change after they get older? |
If you post a picture, maybe someone can help you identify what's going on with her coat. Have you researched red legged yorkies? This doesn't sound exactly like a red legged yorkie description but its a possibility. It could also be that her puppy coat will result in a beautiful adult coat. I don't think you can know for sure until her coat changes. I hope someone else can help answer your question. |
At 3 months you are just dealing with puppy hair which can be a challenge. There is sort of a downy hair that comes out easily when you brush and comb and then a more substantial hair that is what she is growing into. Hair on the top of the head and on the legs can be sparse and seem to not grow as fast as it should. That is okay. A nice silky coat is probably waiting in the wings somewhere down the line. Until then, try to stay on top of grooming as even a few days without the brush can leave matted hair for pups. I am dealing with that now. My son had surgery and I had to take him back to college, deal with follow up appts, etc., and during that week, my poor Annie went from a pretty silky girl, to a tangled mess with matted hair on her legs. I'll get it fixed but we are doing just a little at a time so she does not get too frustrated with grooming. I forgot how fast it could happen! |
