I am fuming MAD I recently purchased a stroller for the babies and thought today was the perfect day to go to the trail for a walk. I had both babies strapped in and walking when coming toward us is man with 2 big dogs. One is a pit mix on a leash and other is a boxer NOT leashed! We have a leash ordinance here especially at a city park. The boxer comes running over to us and Max starts barking (I'm sure he felt threatened since he was buckled in) and trying to jump out but since he's strapped in, the stroller tips over on its side. In the midst of me trying to act as a barrier between his dog and mine and yelling at him to get his dog..I'm trying to make sure the babies aren't hurt. Thank goodness my daughter was there to help...I yelled at him "you are supposed to have your dogs on a leash! Its the law!" His response was, "I didn't see your dogs ok? Yours aren't on a leash either!"..OHHH I was fuming! I said "yes, mine are harnessed in!" No apologies...no nothing! He just turned around and started walking the other way. I'm sure he heard me yell out "A**hole!" I am so sick and tired of irresponsible dog owners! Can I not take my babies out anywhere???? |
Im sorry that happened to you and the babies! I hope they are okay...i know what you mean about dogs off a leash...i cant even walk my dogs around the neighborhood because i am scared of the ones that are just allowed to walk around free..off leash and no owners anywhere in sight..It is beyond frustrating! I wish people would respect laws! ugggh! |
I am so sorry this happened to you, there seems to be a large part of the population that think laws simply do not apply to them. |
Yes, I would have been mad too, because Baxter and Darcy are very scared of dogs bigger than them. Irresponsible pet owners are the reason why we do not have enough places we can take our pets! |
I know how scary things like that are and am sorry you and the babies had that terrible scare. People do let their dogs off leash simply because they get by with it. I've never seen anyone get in trouble for doing that. Same holds true for dogs in the back of pick up trucks. Here it's against the law, but you see it all the time right in town and police around. We need stricter enforcement for these typs of things. I don't think they should wait till something bad happens to do anything. |
9-1-1 I am so sorry that happened to you and your babies. OMG!! I hope they, and you are ok. In addition to what you did, I would have called the police. Breaking the law is breaking the law! |
What an A-hole! Glad you and your babies are safe though! Wow! I can't believe the stroller tipped over...Don't get discouraged, definitely still bring your babies out! Don't punish them for stupid people's actions. |
That sort of thing happens here too I always keep a look out for unleashed dogs, I just don't trust any of them when my baby is involved, Hope he heard you calling him a A --h--- although in todays society they're (the humans) likely to turn against you. |
I Really Dont like pits! Out of the Thousands of Dogs i have been around I was Bit By a Pit which hurt pretty bad got me on the butt and the other was a half White Wolf half husky when i was 5 but that was kinda cool because it only bit my hand and i was fine only a small scar cool story. And I don't think pits should be a domesticated dog almost all have really bad territorial problems and anger issues |
Thank god you are OK and the babies didn't get hurt either. I have had similar experiences with people with big dogs being off leash. It is scary and just terribly rude. We have had some close calls as well, it really makes your adrenalin rush and spoils the whole mood of the walk. |
How horrible! I agree there are so many who consider themselves above the law. I do not understand that. There are ones here in my neighborhood who do the same thing. Beyond infuriating.... Just glad that you and your babies are safe and uninjured. |
Thanks for letting me vent. I'm sure he heard me call him a you know what and I'm sure the reason he took off so fast is because he knew he was wrong! There was a family that saw what happened and stopped to make sure we were ok. That was really nice of them. |
It amazes me that he and so many others just don't understand the word: apology. I mean, an apology does not excuse him for not leashing his dog, but if he could admit he was wrong, maybe just maybe he would realize he IS wrong and put the beast on a leash! You must have been terrified and poor Max! |
Poor babies :(. Glad they're alright! They look adorable in their stroller :)! |
I'm glad you and your babies are ok. I just don't get the mentality of people who think that leash laws don't apply to them. |
What a jerk!! I'm glad you told him off and I'm glad the other people came to help you. Thank goodness you and your babies are alright. Some people have the "not my dog" mentality....so they think they don't have to follow the rules. It's a shame a few idiots ruin things for everyone else! |
Sorry this happened to you, but glad you and the pups are alright. Similar thing happened just today, I was walking Rizzo out in the park that I go to when weather permits (where a leash law exists) when a big dog comes running up to us. I picked up Rizzo and started walking away since I couldn't find the big dogs owner. He starts to follow us?? Finally his owner realizes that her dog wandered off, and I'm feeling a bit distressed. The dog does seem friendly and not interested in eating Rizzo, but Rizz hates being crowded by huge dogs and sometimes bites at them. The big dog owner yells out "don't worry, he's friendly" as if that excuses him not being on a leash and harassing any passersbyers. It is incredibly irritating having to deal with people that can't follow a single rule, keep your pet on a leash! What's even more irritating is there is an OFF LEASH dog park not 40 feet from where she was plopped down at. |

"Don't worry, he's friendly" seems to be a really overused excuse. I've heard that before. Dumb people don't realize that having their dog on a leash protects their dogs too. If Max would have bit that dog, who would have gotten in more trouble? Me, for having an "aggressive" dog! |
Wow....you are a lot better than I would have been, my first reaction would have been to swing at her, it would have been a reflex, as I would have felt threatened. My baby is always in my shoulder carrier when we are out in public because he goes just about everywhere with me. People always stop me everywhere we go and want to pet Gizmo and each and every time they have always asked me first before approaching my dog. If this person had tried to grab Gizmo, he would have bitten her for sure because he would have felt threatened for the both of us. Gizmo hates the leash, something I failed to train him on in the early years, he is 4 yrs old now, and I am working on it now as it would have been helpful when we traveled out of town. I have never seen the need for it until now because I live out in the country and our walks are side by side down my dirt road along with my chow chow pepper. Gizmo likes to take his morning poop in front o my neighbors mail box everyday, its so funny, (don't worry, my neighbor and I have discussed this and I always pick up behind my baby). Any way I am so sorry this happen to you.:flag: |
Believe me that was a real jerk. If the dog had bitten you, you could have had yourself a good law suit and he wouldn't have a leg to stand on. I just can't believe people are so stupid. We have a couple of big dogs around where we live and I've seen them off their leash. This is why my babies play in their own yard PS If you watch the court shows the way I do you will know you are not alone in your feeling. As a matter of fact I'm watching Swift Justice with Nancy Grace and they have just such a case as I post this. |
Thanks everyone...I wasn't discouraged. I went to another park yesterday with them in the stroller. They did well. I don't think they were the least bit traumatized from the day before :) I love to take them out. Even a change of scenery gives them enough stimulation to have them zonked for the night. They came home yesterday, had baths and I didn't hear a peep for the rest of the evening. |
Maybe that stroller is not strong enough - I don't trust it since it can tip over like that. If it was a baby stroller you could have sued the company! I'm glad they didn't get hurt, but still, that doesn't sound right. |
oh... what a bad experence!! I am glad someone was there to help and everyone is ok. I have been thinking of getting pepper spray (I bought some when my girls moved out... for a different type of dog) |

Well, Max does weigh 13lbs and it tipped over when he tried to jump out to get away from the dog. I think because he was buckled in, the stroller went with him. At that point, I had my hands off the stroller too because I was trying to get between the stroller and the boxer. |
