Potty after spay? Hi everyone: My baby girl, Gia, was spayed yesterday. She's doing remarkably well... but she's only tinkled. She hasn't pooed yet. (Sorry if this is gross). She's usually VERY regular - twice a day, about 20 minutes after eating. But she didn't go last night, this morning, or tonight. Is this normal? Is there anything I should do? I appreciate the help. I was a nervous wreck yesterday during the surgery, and I'm probably still a little "hyped".... Luv you all |
After Lulu's surgeries she was a little irregular for a few days as well. I believe it is normal after anesthesia, although I am not an expert. |
Hi mommy :) Gia should have been given fluids during her spay. It is perfectly normal to not poo poo for a couple days after the spay. Is she drinking or eating at all? If not, you can use a little syringe to give her small amounts of water until she feels up to drinking on her own. If she seems dehydrated (gums should be pink and not sticky) or you are concerned in any way, you should give your vet a call and see what they recommend. Also, are you positive she hasn't pee peed? Has she been with you the whole time she's been home since yesterday? Sometimes they will sneak in a pee pee when you are not looking :) |
She is eating her food, and drinking her water just like normal. She has tinkled multiple times yesterday and today like she usually would. But she hasn't poo-pooed at all, which is unlike her. I guess I should wait until tomorrow, and if she hasn't done anything by the afternoon, I'll call the vet? Thanks for the posts. I truly appreciate the help! :) |

A spay is a major surgery (hysterectomy) and it will take a while for her body to be back to 100%. |

WHEW!!! THANK YOU!!!!! :) I'm so glad to know that this is normal. She's acting GREAT (except she's frustrated about wearing the collar of shame - ha!). I'm the one that has the "problem" and is worried about her. I'll get the pumpkin just in case, but I'm sooo glad to know that this is typical. Y'ALL ARE FABULOUS!!!! |

You can use a baby onesie on her so she not have to wear the cone :) The cones drive me nuts because they look so sad in them, lol. |
SHE WENT! :) Thank you all soooooooooooo much for reassuring me!!! :) I also removed the cone and wrapped her with an ace bandage. She's MUCH happier now, and since she's "regular" I'm happier too!!! :) LOVE YOU ALL!!!! |
