Just Want To Help, Need Advice Please! I wonder if someone can give me some advice. I live in the Dallas area, 30 miles east in Kaufman. I want so much to get more involved with this forum with helping yorkies in need and the people here. Unfortunately, I am unable to help financially as I no longer have an income, and I feel so very sad that I am unable to give any money. I have never fostered before and not sure how that even works. Is there anything else I can do to help? I don't know what to do or how to start. . As it stands right now being laid off for a couple of years, I make sure my baby has everything he needs, spending my last on him. I would love to get to know some of you and be a part of the team. Just want to help and don't know how. Thank you for listening, and God Bless You All! |
Money isn't everything. Supporting others with your knowledge, advice, or kind words can go a long way. If you feel you must go do something physically, go volunteer at a local shelter or rescue. It doesn't need to be a shelter for Yorkies specifically. All dogs & cats would appreciate any love you give them. |
What about transport of rescued yorkies? Yorkie Haven Rescue sometimes needs help in Texas, although I'm not sure what area. You should contact LadyJane. |

The best thing I can suggest is to post more and let everyone get to know you. Things will come up that you can help with that don't include money necessarily. |
No money is needed to get active on this board- you just need to start posting and get to know everyone. The best way to get involved is to read as much as possible and comment OFTEN! If there is ever anyone who needs help and you are able to provide it, just jump right in and offer your help! If you want to help animals though, the best way is to get involved in your own community- there are lots of ways to help animals in your community without spending a dime. Since you are unemployed you probably have some extra time on your hands- contact your local shelters and humane societies. Most of them are probably in need of help. You can volunteer a few hours per week to clean out cages, feed the animals, socialize the animals, walk the dogs, etc. Do you have any special talents? If there is something you can make and sell, donating some of the profits to rescue? This could help you out as well- you could donate half the profits to rescue and put half the profits in a fund for your own pets. Do you have old blankets and towels laying around the house? Buy some food your dog doesn't like? Read the wish list of your local shelter and humane society and there may be something you have laying around that they could use. Do you have a senior complex in your area? Many senior citizens have pets and may need help caring for them. You could put up an ad offering to help exercise their pets if they can't, or help to watch them if they need to be in the hospital or go to the doctor. Good Luck- helping animals is so rewarding. :) |
Aww you guys thank you so much for all the ideas, I really appreciate this. I so know of a shelter in a surrounding area near me that I can call, As for the elderly, there are 2 senior centers in my town that I often take my Gizm to visit. They get so excited to see my little guys and he just loves to give them kisses. I will send a message to ladyjane regarding transport, I am not comfortable traveling far in my car but I can move around the Dallas area for sure. Going to also look up rescues in my area, even thought I am afraid of cats....lol....not sure why that is, just always have been. Thank you guys again for posting!:teethysmi |

My friend Sandra, has a missing Maltese, named Rikki. She's a tiny 4.5# female. If you would be willing to light a candle on Rikki's site, and pray for her safe return, it would be one of the greatest things you could do to help us. I misspelled Rikki's name with an "N", so that is why the site says Nikki. Group *Nikki* Candles - Light A Candle The power of prayer is amazing! Welcome to YT, and please don't feel that you have nothing to offer in the way of help. Just posting here is helpful. Sometimes all someone needs is someone to listen, a kind word, etc. Sheila |
