My yorkie screams for the heck of it! Remy has suddenly found his voice the past two weeks. He is fiesty!! He will let out a blood curling yelp if you accidentally brush your foot by him while walking. He acts like he was stepped on . This has even happened when company was over. He is a drama BOY! It's such a scary scream too. He will scream like this in the middle of the night if I leave him In his doggy bed because he knows I will put him in the bed with me! Does anyone else have a screamer like this? |
Nothing helpful here, but that reminds me of a Jack Handey quote: If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason. |
I also have one that yelps very loud like he was hurt if anyone even comes close to stepping on him. He started this during the past year. He doesn't yelp like that about anything else though - even rough housing with my lab. He has always been very quick,(and nervous) to move out of the way of feet..except mine. I guess he knows I am very careful to stay aware of where my babies are. He started this over reacting during the past year or so and is continually getting more dramatic about it. He is 8 now. I kind of thought his eyesight and/or response may be fading a bit with age. Is Remy older too? |

LOL - You are so right about the attention grabbing! Mine are always finding ways to manipulate me - they do insist on being the center of everything! |
I have a screamer. Total drama queen. He will scream and cry for the littlest reasons. He screamed just last night when I was trying to get a mat out of his coat. I wasnt even pulling hard and he made it sound as though I was trying to cut his whole arm off. He is such a baby! |

My boy screams if he has poo stuck to his bottom, at first I wondered what was the matter with him, scared me to death, he'd run fast towards me screaming his head off, now I know- I really watch what he eats and keep his bottom trimmed. I've never heard a dog scream before:eek: |

Scampers did this when he was a baby. He went through a stage were he would scream at the slightest thing, he was a total drama king. Luckily it was just a stage and he outgrew it when he was older. |

Well I like this Yorkietalk site! Makes me feel better other Yorkies are screaming too and that she may outgrow it. Kind of feel sorry for her screaming when we are trying to go for a nice walk. The screaming ruins the walk. I think I will just tell the people that ask that my Saffie is a drama queen. Still won't walk her with her sister. I don't want to screaming dogs, that's for sure. |
not a fun walk for the screaming Our one year old Yorkie rescue Saffie screams when I walk her outside. I can't take both my dogs for a walk because Pixie will start with the screaming too so I walk one at the time. Saffie things she is a bird dog and screams at birds or anything else. When we got her we took all our bird houses down so the birds would leave. Last week we bought barking collars and it works good for Saffie. Pixie used it one time and knows not to bark excessively. People come out to ask whats wrong with Saffie. I don't walk when she screams. I gently stroke her throat and tell her quiet. This YorkieTalk.com makes me feel a little better that other Yorkies yelp at next to nothing also. |
I have always said Addyson doesn't bark she screams and she is 4yrs. old. |
not to be a downer... but I picked up my shih tzu one time and he screamed. It was alful. It turned out he had something wrong with his back. If any of mine scream I have them checked out. Oh the otherhand I have an ole grump who will growl if you are within a foot of him... crusty ole self he is |
Doesn't that scream just break your heart? I hate it when mine do that. Thankfully, they do seem to outgrow it. |
My friend's yorkie is a screamer when you pick him up. I picked him up one time and he let out this very lound scream. I thought I was hurting him so I put him back down and which point he proceeded to run behind his mommy and give me a good cussing out. He started barking non stop as if to say "how dare you pick me up" or "who told you it was okay to pick me up". We both were laughing so hard we were crying. It was then that she told me Scooter always screams when someone other than his mommy picks him up. |
Princess Sophie isn't so much a "screamer" (she does yelp if your shoe gets too close to her feet) but this past week, while we were puppy sitting our friends two female pups, we discovered she is really a "whiner"! OMGoodness, if she didn't get to go out back with everyone else (due to sore food) this past weekend, you could have heard her from the front yard! I'd never heard her like this before. We ended up letting her go out and I just went out and bought some more baby socks. LOL No sense in scaring everyone in the neighborhood! :p |
Bella is a drama queen!!! |
screaming Yorkie Saffie is not hurt and doesn't scream for nothing?? She only screams when I walk her around the neighborhood. I walked her in the woods and she doesn't scream. I was so frustrated yesterday I walked her to the end of the street and brought her back home. I tell her no and try to shut her little mouth. I think she is so anxious she can't stand herself. I walk her without her sister because I don't want her sister to act like that. Her sister is quiet and calm. Poor little Saffie. Anyone know what we are doing wrong? |
I know this is an old thread but I'm glad it was brought up. If Mandie screamed when I touched her or picked her up, I would definitely get her checked out. However, Mandie screams...like a real full-on scream, when and only when, I go to use my scissors to trim her feet. It is like she has nerve endings in those particular hairs. She doesn't scream when I trim any other part of her lol |
I'm glad this old thread was resurected. Macy screams when the vet gets close to her ears during a regular check up. He can stick his fingers in her mouth, shine a light in her eyes, take blood and express her anal glands without a sound but put the pointy thing with a light within a foot of her ears and she screams loud enough the people in the waiting room jump. She screams the entire time he is looking in her ears until he turns off the light on his instrument. Needless to say he does a quick look-see in her ears. Last time I was there, a woman that was waiting with her dog to see the vet came up to me when I was leaving to ask if my dog was OK because Macy sounded like she was being murdered. |

Jasper doesn't scream, but he has this low kind of howl that almost sounds like he is crying and trying to speak at the same time. Sometimes I swear he says "mama". My DH Has heard him. He only does it after I put him in his kennel for the night. The first time it scared me and I rushed to get him. Now he continues to do it. ;) |
OK- so we thought Chip was a 'squeaker' and he had had short bursts of drama squeals-but until last night, we didn't know the extent of it. We had an older (10 yr old) Yorkie visiting for a few days. The older guy is very quirky about shadows and quick movements- to make a long story short, there was an incident involving 2 dogs on my recliner, a plate of tortilla chips and ended in our little Chip ( 1 year old) hysterically SCREAMING at the top of his lungs when the old man gave him a growl- So glad this forum is here-I thought the old guy had bitten him-but it was just drama- SCARY! |
My little Madlyn is only 9 weeks old, so I expected some degree of whining . But when she is put in the kennel or the sunroom ( which is a step lower than the living room and can be separated by a curtain, but leaves a view of the living room and all inhabitants within) she will start with a frantic whine and quickly escalate to a panicky ear piercing scream and yowl that doesn't stop. My boyfriend picked her up once before I could stop him. Now she screams even longer and louder. Hopefully this is a passing phase. I'm sure the neighbors think we torture her |
