Pups hair 1 Attachment(s) My Charm is 8 months old and she is still black with no lighter hair growing in does this mean she will stay black? I have never seen any color but blue eye shine in her pictures and I'm not sure if this is a correct way to judge my other 2 have green eye shine. When I part her hair down the back after a bath the skin even has a blue cast to it. So far her hair shines and is cool to the touch, straight and a comb goes through it easy. I think she may have a silky coat I'm not sure if that can change with age to a cotton coat. Her hair is longer by far then my other 2 girls and grows fast but isn't thick like my sister Yorkie Madison who does have a cotton coat. She has a darker face to and I love her coloring it gives her a puppy look. She the little one on the end I need to take a picture without a dress on. |
Your pups are beautiful!! My Elsa came home with a thick coat that eventually turned to like cotton candy type hair. I think she looks "whacked out" sometimes! LOL I guess only time will tell. I guess if would have joined this forum and stuck to it earlier then I probably would have done the right things for her hair...I made mistakes like brushing her dry etc.... This IS the place for good advice. After this litter (it was our first)we both are going to get groomed...we are looking rough!!!!! |
Great picture! Silk hair does not turn cotton later in life. Color and color changes are determined by genetics. Eventually the black/blue will lighten and the head will clear. Maximo is over 2 years old and he is still quite dark. |
thank you for the reply's Charms mother was a very light silver color and her dad was a dark gun metal color like my Chloe and he had a dark face and was 2 years old when I saw him. |

Charm is adorable, and she does have nice, rich coloring. :) |
I really like her coloring. It's so pretty. Every yorkie's hair change is different so I wouldn't judge her by your other two pretty girls. I've also heard the hair can change up until 2 years. |
I have had both quick silver pup and black pup for years. Levi is 3 and dark as can be just now silvering. Scarlett took several years before bluing she is now 7. I have two of their pups and Chloe took after dad, and Foxie is the odd ball with her thin, already bluing coat. What did they say at the show? |
Your little yorkie is like my sonic he is 9 months and his head has some silverish coloring and also some silverish on the back part of his back and some on his tail, his fur has a dark steel blue color to it. I think he maybe a mix of cotton and silk he does get a few little bitty pieces of mats on his chest, and sometimes his hair little wavy specially on his back above his tail, but when I part his hair on his back its straight, I like his coloring but I also can't wait for his fur to change.. By the way your furbabies are so cute. |
I just wanted to say that your girls are all beautiful, I also like the rich color. |
Abby (8 months) also has a grey/ "blue" cast to her skin, compared to Ziva's pinkish skin coloring. Abby has straight! black thin hair- perfectly smooth, shiny and cool. She has never had even a knot, Her head has gone silver and I am starting to see silver at the roots on her back? Fun to see what they turn into as adults! |
4 Attachment(s) They are all so different in when and how they break color. Gracie Ruth and Yogi are full siblings, yet their color and timing couldn't be more different. G started changing right away and has a beautiful, IMHO, silver color coat. Yogi was coal black for his first 2 years. On his 2nd birthday I noticed a bit of a dusty color on his shoulders and head. He has very slowly over the last 1 1/2 years gotten lighter. You can see the difference between pic's 1 & 2 below that his head is lighter and the brown is much higher on his legs and has actually reached his chest. There were 6 pup total in 2 litters and only 2 of them have G's coloring. The other 4 are black like Yogi. your babies are beautiful! as of almost one year old my cedric still has black in the back. i believe he is a cotton coat and i do see lots of silver but its mixed and has stayed mostly black so far. |
Because she is 8 months, I would say she might lighten up a little as she ages. My K is super dark and did not change much color wise from when we brought her home at 5 months to now. It sounds like Charm has silky hair, and that will not change as she ages. |
My understanding is that eye shine color has a relationship to genetic coat type...i.e., silk (blue, green, gold) vs cotton (red)...not genetic coloring (MM=Black...Black being the recessive color condition and lacking 'greying' genetics). It is also my understanding that Yorkies who break blue 'later' may stay at maturity a more 'desirable' color...i.e., closer to the standard "dark steel blue" color...than those who break blue earlier. I personally think all the colors are gorgeous, though...:D...and I just marvel at the variety...they are all just such cutie pies! :D Oh, and my Mia is "golden" but her skin has a blue cast even though she lost all the black hair of her puppyhood. The YTCA (and AKC) say their color does not fully mature for 3 or more years, though, so I wouldn't worry about your lovely girl. Unless my eye adjustment was a complete failure :p, there appears to be blue on her head so it looks like she may not be black and tan forever...IMHO. Your Yorkies are so precious, and what a nice photo that is of them all together...love the matching bandanas! |
