When a yorkie gets old is it normal for them to not be able to hold their urine ? So Roxie is now 11 years old & we've had her for about 2 years and when we first got her she was already house trained . She barks to let us know when she has to go outside. Well, for the past 6 months she's been peeing and pooping in the house only when no one is home or in the middle of the night when were asleep. We just blow it off and clean it up because she's old and we just figure its because she cant hold it anymore. But when ppl are here she'll let us know she has to go out. Its starting to annoy me because Im tired of having to shampoo the carpet. Is there anything I can do ? |
Sort of like people Heck old people have a harder time holding it;). If the dog has had a vet check her out I would guess you just have to figure that age has it's allowances. Annoying as it is. Remember we are going to get old if we are lucky. |
Have the vet check her out. If she doesn't have a uti and is unable to hold it, there is medication available to help her hold her urine. You may want to confine her to a smaller space at night, too. Has the vet checked her eyes lately to see if she has cataracts? Also, yorkies can suffer from dementia, the same as people. I would have all of these things checked out with a good vet. There are any number of things that can be causing this new problem of hers and perhaps you can find some answers.:) |
She has to see a vet as soon as possible. It may just be aging, but other things can cause this which need to be ruled out. If all is well, a medication (Pro-In) can be tried. It strengthens the bladder sphincter. However, if it's full urination and not just dribbles, this probably isn't going to work. You would just need to try to take her out in the middle of the night. |
Nikki is 16 and he goes pretty often and gets up during the night. But he is pee pad trained so can go when he wants without my having to let him out. I would have your vet her out to be sure there is no underlying problem. |
