"sigh" WHATS WRONG WITH PEOPLE! So Santa brought Peanut a new red collar! Well I had to get him a new Id Tag, so we take a trip to Petsmart. Real quick, did you know that Petsmart has a new Id Tag thingy...it no longer ingraves the name and number, its like um... laser or something, and they dont have the gold, silver color anymore :( its really strange, it came out good, but I still like the old way they did it. With the old way you can feel the ingravement (is that a word) . We were kinda bummed! So back to my story, we are coming out and I get into my car, about to shut the door, I hear "excuse me" I look its a lady.. She askes me if Pnut was a full yorkie? I say yes, then she says (lol) his he a teacup, or toy.? I say no he is just small, 4 lbs. Then she says I have a female that is 3lbs and I was wondering if you dont mind LENDING ME YOUR DOG so I can breed my female!!!! ( I know what all of you are thinking) I said no, sorry he is neutered. Then I went into the WHOLE SPILL on why not to breed her and how she is TOO SMALL, and you know what she said, Well my Vet told me it was ok, she is in great health, he also said if I find a smaller yorkie it wouldnt be a big deal!!! OMG! I asked her why is it you want to breed her, she said TO SELL AND KEEP ONE OF HER PUPPIES!!!! OMG, I was done with this lady. I told her how dangerous it was for the female and how she would research this and everything, and she wasnt listing to me, she gave me a snotty look and said ok, thanks anways and walked away!! MY GOD, are people insane!! You canT just one day wake up and decide you want to breed!! Much less breed a 3lb dog!! When I was telling her that she could loose her female over this she looked at me like i was nuts!!! Man I swear Petsmart is like the home of BYB'S!! I hope she does research breeding, but I highly doubt she will! Sorry I have been upset ever since and I had to get it out lol :D |
Thats sad... I hope she changes her mind. Maybe she will think about what you said later and do some reasearch. We can only hope. |
Ya it is sad. I just wonder when and how this "breeding" idea gets in peoples mind...Even before I got Peanut neutered people always were bugging me about lending them my dog,I thought, my dog is my baby, he is not a baby making machine! I was always thinking "what's wrong with people" This world has soooo many GOOD BREEDERS that do it the right way, we dont need people like that TRYING to breed! |

Maybe it would be worthwhile for an educational pamplet to be developed by a Toy Dog Group association and mailed out to all the licensed vets. |

Hopefully your words will sink in and she will research more. You at least took the time to try and educate her, and I applaud you for that! I've heard this from people before about their vets giving an okay for these tiny females to be bred and doubt the information:rolleyes:. If it is true, and vets are approving, they should have their license revoked. |

Let me tell you this, if she did her research, she will NOT breed her baby. I have to admit, when I first got my girl, I wanted to breed her. Then I researched and found out that's she's too small so I spayed her. She's 3.5 pounds and I wouldn't want to put her life in danger for my own selfish desire. I hope that lady will end up doing some research and end up spaying her baby. |
Sadly there are many people who are not interested in what is best for their dog only in their immediate wants. And they are resistant to anything that interferes with their plan. Her poor dog. You tried warn her about the hazards of breeding her dog. Hopefully she may stop and think because of what you said. I must say I was really unaware of how to take care of Buster when I first got him. I read some books to get the basics but learning from people on here on what to do and what not to do has been the best education. Now when I meet people who have a Yorkie I steer them to this site. |

Well I am glad you to hear you changed your mind!! :D You did the best thing! OUr baby's aren't for baby making! |
True story: Before I was smarter, we went to buy a car for my husband. The car dealer owned a female yorkie, so of course we got to talking. Sight unseen, the car dealer asked if we wanted to stud Chip and he would give us pick of the litter. They had never bred and both Chip and his little girl were still puppies. Like I said, I wasn't very smart and said "Sure" but came on YT and everyone talked sense into me and I didn't go through with it. Sometimes people just think it's no big deal and it really is. |

I think some people think breeding=free puppy. They have no clue about how much it could potentially cost them. My mom has a neighbor with a 3 pounder. She stopped me one day and asked me if I would be interested in having Rhett breed with her dog because she liked the looks of him. Now, keep in mind that Rhett weighed in at 10 pounds at 6 months. The first time she asked, I gave her the same "your girl is too small to breed" advice (she told me the vet said her girl was healthy and would do fine). The second time she asked, I got a little more indignant and told her that her bitch wasn't good enough for my boy :p. She hasn't asked again. |

What are you talking about a 3lber and a 10lber is a perfect match!!! LOL! That would drive me crazy if someone kept asking me, and didnt listen to my great advice!! UGH people! |
I've run into ignorant people like that at the dog park. One had a tiny Yorkie and was telling everyone that she was going to breed her. When I asked how much the pup weighed (3.5#) and told her how dangerous it was, she said "no problem, we'll just get a c-section," and she shrugged her sholders, like "no big deal." Anything else I tried to say fell on deaf ears, so I just had to bite my tongue and walk away. As I was walking away, someone asked her where she got the Yorkie, and she said "Trader's Village," which is a flea market! There are many brokers there that sell from puppy mills, so not only was the dog too small, she had NO idea what the dog's background was. Another time I was approached by a man wanting to know if Jezebel had been fixed, and of course she had been. She's my spunky, high spirited, friendly girl, but she's far from breeding material! Twelve pounds, ears didn't stand, cotton coat .... I love her to death, but really! To top it off, his dog was a mutt ... probably one of the cutest mutts I have ever seen, but a mutt and he had no idea what breeds were part of his background. Although he did know the dog's dam, because she owned her and she was right there. You couldn't tell what breeds were in her make-up, either, and she and her son looked nothing alike. Very cute small dogs (exceptionally cute), but really? Not breeding material at all. And the very idea that he thought I would be willing to risk the life of my girl to have the pups of a mutt? These people are everywhere. I don't know what they are thinking. |
Please..she'll be on here in a few months desperately asking for help with whelping. |

keep repeating the message!! There was a time that I wanted to breed my little Remy -- well breed a puppy before I feel so in love with Remy!! I had a little Shih tuz that I purchased from a "back yard breeder" The sad part is I thought I was being "smart" I checked out the house-- the mother and father and to my untrained eye and with my lack of knowledge it seamed fine. I got two dogs - brother and sister (Bailey for my daughter and my precious little Zoey). Sad to say Zoey died by about 8 months -- thousands of dollars spent at the vet trying to save her -- the vet did an autopsy and Zoey had a congenial kidney defect. The vet said her kidney was like an old dog who had cancer. It was heart breaking. I now have her brother (almost 3 years old) and watch him like a hawk!! When I wanted another pup I asked my vet to recommend a shih tuz breeder, he is the one who talked me into a Yorkie He also told storied of bad breeding and scams -- really scary stuff. One of the things I remember most..... NEVER BREED A FEMALE UNDER 5 POUNDS!!! (Remy's mom was 5lbs but she is 3.5 lbs) I have had many people stop me and ask if I want to breed her..... hmmmmm NO!! Yes, at one time I though breeding was the "easy" way to get another puppy. When you love your baby you think you may want "more" of them. But I now understand I don't know enough nor do I want any chance of loosing another dog. Maybe when I retire from teaching I will breed dogs.. if I am lucky to have a mentor. Or maybe I will run or work in a rescue... a yorkie and shih tuz rescue :) |
I believe in the 80/20 rule. ......80% of all humanity are morons. ......The other 20% are constantly trying to undo all the insanity that the 80% initiates. |
I've had a couple of female Yorkie owners approach me about using Levi as a stud as well. Drives me crazy! I always just respond with "he's fixed." Glad you at least tried to educate this woman! |

I said OH NO, he is neutered and even if he wasn't, he has had health problems and he is under weight (in my opinion) to ever breed. He was with his interesting looking wife, and he told her, no-he's neutered and she shrugged!!!!! UGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!! I felt violated!!!!! FOOLS!!!!!!!! They probably go around looking all the time. I guess I should feel proud that Snick is gorgeous enough for someone to ask to breed him, but I don't. I'm mad.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: WEIRD! I totally agree with the 80/20!!! Thank GOODNESS I am DEFINITELY part of the 20!! UGH- Snick & Viv |
Hopefully you might have give her something to think about. People are just nuts. And can you believe that vet???? He sounds like a real winner. |
I had this happen at our local Petsmart here... When Couver was like 5 months old, a lady asked me if I wanted to stud him out to her female and get pick of the litter. At that point, he was too young to be neutered, but I told her heck no. I think it's important to just educate as many people as possible... Even if you get through to just one person, you've made a difference :) |
Hopefully you planted the seed for this woman to start doing her research and she will realize her vet is WRONG and that she should just have her spayed and enjoy her. |

LoL How crazy!!! How does that happen to both of us!! Ugh people are nuts lol, thats all I gotta say. |
