Does she look full Yorkie?
 

She's the one by herself. She is 2 years now and I am not really worried but would like opinions. Vet has told me yes, she's full even tho she doesn't meet AKC's show standard. I met her mom and dad, and she looks like them some. Thanks! :animal-pa

She looks like she is mostly Yorkie, I would say most. Is she AKC papered ? I personally think is looks like she has a little bit of Papillon in her, because of her ears & nose/snout. Lol. She is beautiful tho. :) I think that one of her parents was maybe half Papillon half Yorkie, which would leave her 1/4 Papillon & 3/4 Yorkie. Because you said you met both parents & you would have known if one of the parents was a completley different breed. Of course no one can be for sure. & if the breeder said that she was purbreed Yorkie, maybe they didnt know if one of the parents was a mix. I dont know. No one can tell you positivley. But my personal opinion is that I think that one of her parents is a Papillon mix :)

Look at those nice ears!!I have seen yorkies with ears like that. But she ,may have some mix in her family tree..Very beautiful

I agree with the person who said there could be some Papillon in your babies background. I have a pair of Papillons and Yorkies and if your baby is part both, then you have the best of both worlds. They are both phenominal breeds with wonderful dispositions. The ears may be a little on the larger size for a Yorkie but that is just more to love =)

Yes, she's AKC; but I have her dualed under UKC, since my boy is UKC; I honestly could careless about the registry part since AKC can't really guarantee quality. I honestly think nowadays there is ways around a purebred, decently bred dog. But thanks ya'll so much for the opinions. I was gonna do a DNA test on but realized it doesn't really matter; since yorkies and all other dogs are already mixed to become one. Thanks again-I had never seen a Papillon til today. They will not knowingly register a mix. Breeders have ways of getting around this.

With all due respect-fMy personal opinion is...who cares! As long as u love ur furbaby, that is all that matters. If he is a full breed or not, what matters is the priceless love u will get!

All 3 of my dogs are my world, I have a spoiled mix Rott and 2 terribly spoiled Yorkies. The yorkies get clothing and bows lol- my hubby won't let me dress up our Rott. Thanks for the helpful insight and opinions. I love this forum and glad I found it when I got the babies.

Yes your right but if the breeder says this is a yorkie, its registered AKC and the vet says its a yorkie my moneys on that shes a yorkie.

I agree. My main point was that AKC registration does not always = purebred dog so I wouldn't totally base my opinion on that.

To me, she looks full yorkie. If the vet agrees, I'd consider her a full yorkie.

so, you dont care what your baby is & if she is mixed its more just interest ? Lol. that is understandable. keep me posted.

Thanks ya'll again! My two lil' Yorkies are not even dogs honestly they are humans to me. LOL. They take up most the couch and bed space and TRY to steal my food, desserts, and drinks. They are amazing lil' animals, I have not seen a yorkie who isn't just full of personality. I think we're all soo lucky to have one, two, or many ;) to love! Have a great day and Happy New Year!

I just had a conversation with a fellow YT member, saying that Yorkie's are more like babies. they dont know they are dogs. My little Bee asks to get picked up all the time, I swear she thinks she is a baby & she always will. I never thought I could love anything so much.

She looks like a Chihuahua/Yorkie mix :) Even Silky Terrier or a Papillon/Yorkie mix.
Maybe half Yorkie, and the other half Chihuahua/papillon.
Her head is not a yorkie head, her nose is too long to be a 100% yorkie, her ears way too big, it looks like her hair isnt true yorkie hair, it looks like its more harsh, its not enough beard, yorkies have so much beard :)

Hi everybody...just in response to Hayley and her concern as to the "trueness" of her Yorkies pedigree..I can't answer this but I can say that she looks rather my 11 year old Yorkie who is and has been my dearest companion and friend..and you know what if she wasn't 100% pedigree..it wouldnt matter at all..I love her dearly and no papers could alter how much she means to me and your little pet will mean to you. Also, in europe now, particularily now in the Uk there is a controversial debate going on as to the ethics of breeding to such a fine pedigree..in fact the BBC had a tv documentary last year which highlighted the terrible illnesses that poor little doggies have to endure because of inherited diseases through inbreeding to achieve such desired breed characteristics..In fact if I'm not wrong the BBC refused to show the Krufts show last year on ethical grounds..So therefore I say perhaps a little deviation from the supermodel look is healthy and indeed probably more ethical and I say...forget perfection..love your little pet!!

This thread makes me laugh. I have been breeding Yorkies for over 10 years. There are never 2 alike. Same mom, same dad. One with tiny ears, the other with big ears!! One black and tan, one silver and tan. I have no idea why, it just IS. Ones ears stand up, ones flop over. It's crazy. People ask me all the time "How can you tell them apart?" I ask, "How can you not?" It's like kids, human ones. Same mom, same dad, different looking kids. Maybe it's something in the air or what the mom had for dinner that night. :D But.......if anyone ever figures out why they're different, please tell me!!!! :aimeeyork:aimeeyork

Thanks all of you. Yeah I honestly love her either way. My vet has said the same as Suz did. She said that yorkies have so many variations that it is hard to tell their outcome. She also said most wanted the show type yorkie and others are interested in the ones like I had Cotton and Red legged. She said everyone has their pick in which is their favorite and I met Chloe and knew her looks at 6wk, 8wk, and at 13 wks when I picked her up and still chose her. She said she seen so many you couldn't believe, but the only one she hasn't seen in person is a Parti yorkie (I asked her about reputable breeders in my area), so she couldn't help me there :(. Princes_Mom and Couversmom- THANK YA'LL I'd have to agree 110% lol. :thumbup::thumbup: I've honestly not found a picture of her on the internet mixed/full either. I've found the red legged ones that look 90% similar. But I guess pedigree is in the eye of the pet owner! Thanks guys again.

suz i agree i have had three litter of seven each and they are all so different all with same parents I do love them all and think its wonderful how they all have their own looks Love this site there is such good information on it. But time can really fly by when reading all of it :) gotta love the yorkie

It is hard to tell from these pics alone, but I don't see anything that screams mixed dog. Depending on how you groom the hair on the ears, yorkies can look just like that. True they are a little on the large side, but there are many yorkies with large ears. I would believe the registration and breeder since there is nothing that really stands out as another breed. If there was papillion in there, I would suspect white would show on the coat. Maybe not, but I sure would not think it merely because of the ears. They look as much like yorkie ears as papillion. My mom has 3 papillion and they are a lot different too, like yorkies. Everyone can see different things in a dog. When I see the pointy nosed dogs I see fox. I am sure they are not being bred with fox but that is the image in my mind. Specific traits mean different things to different people. Big ears may remind some of a papillion (especially when the hair fringes like yours), but others think chi as in this thread. Still others may see a different breed. But I see yorkie -- not a show quality yorkie -- but a yorkie to love forever! One that obviously is bringing you years of joy already and will for a long time to come. :D

The reason I encourage only breeding TO the AKC standard is to try to minimize questions like these. When breeders are not careful to select only those dogs who epitomize the breed standard for their dams & sires, they wind up with too many puppies that are far enough off standard to cause the owners to ask questions like these as they mature. Even selecting the best breed representatives, there are going to be some that are off-standard. But when you start with a breeding pair that do not meet standards, then the chances of getting pups that mature into the dog most think of as a Yorkshire Terrier get slim to none.

Very selective breeding is the answer to preserve our breed! If today's breeders are more responsible in selecting which ones they will breed and go ahead and spay/neuter the others -- our children, grandchildren and beyond will get to enjoy the beautiful Yorkies that yesterday's breeders devoted their lives to refining!

For $60.00 you can find out with doggie dna test. I sent in a sample to find out what about my rescued guy. It takes about 3 weeks.
