ToothPaste Throw Up! The strangest thing. We used to use 5-in-1 canine toothpaste which we had zero problems with but can't get it anymore. Now we have been using Petrodex Natural toothpaste. For past 6 months or so. We go out of town often and stay at the same place each time. When we go away, Roxy has a tube of the same toothpaste at the other location as she does here at home. We just got back home from Holidays. She was fine there, with no bad reaction from the toothpaste. When I got her home and this morning (first tooth brushing since back) I brushed her teeth, using a tiny bit of toothpaste per side. Afterward, still on grooming table, she starts licking her lips like she is going to throw up. I rinsed her mouth for her and offered her a drink of water. We then went for a walk before breakfast. She walked about three city blocks, right to the park and threw up. Since she has done this before, at home and I don't think she has anything wrong internally as she is checked by the vet regularly, (Was just in on Monday for nail clipping) I must say I notice a correlation of her occasional throw up with this toothpaste. I have checked the expiry date and is okay to 2013. Uses same toothpaste when out of town but from a different tube and no bad reaction. Has anyone had similar reaction this brand and or flavor of canine toothpaste? I am in BC Canada and the only toothpaste I see at all the dog supply places is this Petrodex. I wouldn't want to brush my own teeth with is as it smells terrible but is all that is available. I prefer as natural as we can get as well. Any suggestions? PS: Roxy wont do sweet. Mint maybe and have read about the CET vanilla mint, the LEBA III (unsure what that is) and Four Paws smells like vanilla. Not so sure Roxy would be into the Vanilla thing. I only used a tiny speck on her toothbrush this morning. Could it be because she hasn't eaten breakfast yet so tummy emptier than usual? I have seen the idea of formulating your own doggy toothpaste but very reluctant because it calls for baking soda.. Your thoughts appreciated. |
Buster loves his Virbac CET Chicken flavor toothpaste Virbac Animal Health | C.E.T. Maybe you could order it? |

I use this toothpaste that I buy from Wal-mart it's smart groom by walh. Harley loves it and it smells decent... |
Four Paws Option I Found the C.E.T toothpaste on Amazon for $3.00 http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...&condition=new but unable to find the Vanilla mint flavor at that amazing price. Did see it for $6.99 however. Since I can't wait for shipping!! I went to our local Petsmart and found the Four Paws regular flavor. It smells like something that Roxy will approve of and haven't brushed yet today. Hopefully she will approve without upset. Total was $12! We brush daily but I use a tiny bit of tooth paste only about 3x per week. Roxy also get's Plaque Off. Her teeth are amazing. The Vet says "wow". Roxy was able to bypass the recommended two year dental because of the care we have taken with her teeth. As a rescue her teeth were yellow at 15 mnths! Wouldn't eat kibble cos her gums obviously were tender. During Spay the hygienist scaled and polished. It is very important to take care of your dogs teeth, first for health reasons, good breath and a huge savings in dental bills. Thanks again for the heads up on the C.E.T. as that will be our second plan of action if Roxy exhibits dislike for the Four paws. |
