Welcome to YorkieTalk Tammy. :) It's wonderful that you are considering giving this Yorkie a loving home, and I understand your concerns. With a 2 year old unaltered male, marking is a strong possibility. If you are willing, you could use belly bands while you have your house on the market. You would have to put an incontinence pad in the belly band, change it periodically, and remove the band to provide the dog ample opportunity to potty outdoors. I've read here that training a dog not to mark is a challenge. Long term, this is one of your considerations before you commit. Best wishes. |
yes i read about belly bands i want him to get fixed but intill then i was worried about marking |
Best of luck. A yorkie and a Jack can be great playmates and you should have some fun high speed energy in your home. |

I don't have any advice on this one, I did however want to say Welcome! |
he is about 4.5 pounds and his name is peanut |

The belly band will "catch" the small amount of urine the dog expels when he marks. |

I have yorkies & a Jack Russell too! My Jack Russell thinks she is a tiny yorkie. She wants to be the lap dog of the family. They all get along great and make perfect playmates. I would recommend neutering him right off the bat, maybe even have the current owner do it and offer to pay. If he is neutered before coming into your house, you will have a much better chance of keeping him from marking. I went through two males trying to outmark each other and it was no fun. You don't want him to get your JR started. |
i am not sure if he does mark there always in a cage cause females in heat wondering if such a good idea cause i dont want my jack marking she is going to take him to states to neuter for me and i will pay for it but not sure when will have to ask but i dont think he is out of cage long enough to mark |
A dog is a dog. Well, I think the main focus will be on his eatting schedule. When you feed him, make sure you take him out within 20 minutes after he eats or drinks. You will have to watch him closely also. Watch to see if he starts pacing the floor or sniffing around, usually those are great signs that he has to pee. Most people who can't house break their dogs just don't pay close enough attention to the signs. If you watch, I guarantee that they will start sniffing or walking around alot, maybe in circles or looking a bit stressed , like they really need to find a place to go. And don't let him out of your sight to roam around your house freely. When you are not able to watch him closely, put him in a cage for a little while, until you can pay close attention to him. Best of luck if you decide to give Peanut a home. Hope you do! |
I would bet if he is neutered before you bring him home, you won't have the problem with either of them. I don't want to talk you out of giving this little guy a real home! I have never had anyone complain of marking when they have two neutered males. I had almost decided to keep a male from my last litter but he got in the marking contest with his father. I found a good home for him (he's neutered & no longer marks) and I have neutered his father (Ben in my avatar) -- no more marking from him either. So-- it is being intact that gets that behavior going. |
Neutering does not always stop marking! Matter of fact, even females will mark. I would suggest using belly bands. The chances are he will not mark with only one other pup in the house that is not marking....after he is neutered, that is; but there is never a guarantee. All of them are different. Welcome to YT! :) |
