Strange Car Habits I recently adopted a 1 year old Yorkie and thanks to your posts, I was prepared to bring him into the best home possible! Most of his habits I can figure out...but there's one that baffles me: When riding in the car his is a perfect angel--sitting or laying in the passenger seat. UNTIL...we come to a stop. As soon as I get to a red light, he jumps up and starts to figit, shake, jump up in the window, and cry. All I can figure is that he thinks we're getting out--or, even worse, that he's about to get left in the car. Any thoughts? |
That seems to be more of a nervous habit. Without knowing what went on in his first year, no one could really say. As you say, he may be wanting to get out, since you've stopped the car, or he may be fearful of being left in the car. Do you use a puppy seat? I strongly suggest one. It is for his own safety, plus it will make him feel more secure and be able to look out at the same time.:) I forgot to welcome you to YT. |
The puppy seat is on it's way, I ordered it yesterday! But, I think Avery might prefer the seat that sit small dogs higher up--I didn't get that kind. :/ We'll see how it goes! |
Perhaps you could add a small pillow in the bottom of the seat? |
My 2 year old does the same thing. He even does it when he hears the turn signal go on. With mine, I think he thinks we are going to come to a stop and he can get out. We never leave him in the car by himself, but he does not like it when just one of us gets out and leaves him with the other one. |
He thinks you've stopped at Sonic Drive Inn, or the Bank and he's going to get a treat!!! :D:D:D Oh wait, that's what mine do........ |

I would say he thinks it time to get out Gatsby starts to figit when he knows we are close to my grandma or my moms house. |
