take food away at night? Lexi is 12 weeks old. The last two nights I've been taking her food away at bedtime. Around 9pm and give her fresh in the morning about 8am. Is that too long for her to go without food? I know their sugar can drop quickly and that is the last thing I want to happen. At what age can you take their food away for a full 12 hours at night? Thank you for any advice! :) |
I am not sure about this and I know some others will answer. But Rosie don't get food at night and she does fine. However, she is 3 1/2 years old. I didn't get her until she was 6 months old so I never had her at that young of an age. She does fine now without food all night. Sorry I can't be more help. |
Thank you for your reply :) |
No problem! I hope more will give you better advice. BTW, Lexie is adorable!! |
aww Thank you! your Rosie is beautiful as well! ;) |
How much does Lexi weigh? Max did fine at 3 pounds 2 oz. I think it depends on the dog. Teddy, at 8 months and 6 pounds, required a little food in his belly or he would throw up bile by 6 am. I would give him a couple of kibble at about 11 and that cured the problem. |
she was 2 lbs. 3 oz. like 2 days ago when I weighed her. Thank you for your reply Kristin! |
If she is a good eater and she appears to be okay in the morning, then go with what you are doing. If she throws up yellow bile or appears lethargic, then give her a late night snack. :) |
okay will do! Thank you for your help and advice! |
I used to free feed...but then I had 4 here with three different dietary requirements..free feeding wasn't an option. I have noted that since we have a schedule we seem to be just fine, I was always concerned about schedule feeding leaving them hungry between-they adjust and it has been fine for us. I got princess at 19 weeks, (I though 12 weeks was the change over age for feeding) I have always scheduled her feedings and it really aided in potty training...she can never free feed she'll gorge...but apparently that's a common issue with mini schnauzers. I fed breakfast kenneled 20 minutes out side potty walk, training with treats, lunch 20 minutes kennel, outside potty/walk, training treats, dinner 20 minutes kennel outside potty walk. You can give Karo-in small amounts for hypoglycemia but why if she's not symptomatic or the blood work doesn't show it-watch for it with Yorkies. I know some people put it in water but please don't think of the teeth, use a syringe and drop it down her throat if it is needed. If she throws up bite I'd be foremost concerned with the common reflux-we went through that here, we use a raised feeder 4" or more for Yorkies, switched to a water bottle instead of bowl and use apple cider vinegar... http://www.thebellacottage.com/produ...?pid=107&id=10 http://www.earthclinic.com/Pets/acvfordogs.html http://shop.ebay.co.uk/sis.html?_nkw...at+Animal+Pets |
