Human grade is not a legally defined term. Most of it is not okay for people even beforee processing. Food is either fit for human consumption or unfit for human consumption. Human grade is not really defined. I think a lot of YT members would be really surprised to see some of these human grade ingredients. You would need to ask the company if it is fit for human consumption or not.

I look at guaranteed analysis before ingredients. I'm not totally against feeding pork. Fat is fat. I'd say any feeding of ham or bacon at home (even a tiny bite) is a really bad idea.

I feed Teegy some gently steamed broccoli and cauliflower florets all broken apart and when I have a steak I chop a little piece of raw and always put anything in his food bowl.

Well I feed raw, and mix the ingredients myself. Their treats are also home made. Their training treats will consist of chicken or lamb, or lean roast beef. Sometimes liver. I use sometimes cheerios as the only store bought treat I feed.

And yes they do get green beans, blueberries, a little of squash, frozen sweet potatoe, broccoli, a little teeney potatoe bit at times.

It can be a hassle feeding raw when you are travelling, but we have learnt to cope.

Yes, I was mistaken. Honest Kitchen actually says their food is Human Food Grade (ie, fit for human consumption). It is the only (pet) food I am aware of that is fit for human consumption.

The remainder of foods that claim human grade ingredients may or may not be being truthful. However, my main point was that dog food doesn't come from anywhere special. It is simply the parts of the animal that humans can't or won't eat, in most cases. Thus, as long as you use common sense, you could feed human food without negative results. Like, it's okay to feed boiled chicken/rice (human food!) but not Cheetos.

Do you switch to freeze dried raw for travel? That's what we do.

I have a Westie too! But he would starve to death before he ate an apple. Lucy loves them but Ringo just looks at her like she has lost her mind.

:D Roxy will eat ANYTHING. She's one of those dogs that would literally eat until she explodes! She's NUTS!

Just a note here...I don't feed my dogs pork as I don't eat it...and they don't eat red meat as well..ye that too
I've always found that with potatoes my dogs get a tummy ache not sure why but after the second time I don't give them potatoes that are uncooked...Scoobers despite not supposed to be eating grains...LOVES pasta and also cheats and gets the odd small red cooked potato-anyone else know hwy potatoes would cause stomach discomfort for them when raw? Is it the starch?

We feed nv raw and take it when traveling. I have a soft side collapsable cooler that goes in my luggage. Very easy and the food stays frozen

No human food for Sophie Kate except Cheerios (for training purposes). I learned a valuable lesson when she was about 8 months old and someone gave her something that did not agree with her.

After staying up with her all night because she was sick and taking to the vet first thing in the morning I learned she gets three things daily;

Dog Food
Water
Training Treats (Charlie Bear Dog treats or Cheerios).

I also do not let her eat off my plate, that was something I started with my cat years ago and it has just carried over. Honestly I don't like sharing my plates and utensils with humans or animals.

Snoopy's brother had a little tummy upset once, and we boiled some chicken breast for him, and some white rice. Of course, that's what Snoopy had for dinner that night too. Both were fed from a spoon, because it looked kinda messy. So now, we pretend Snoopy fakes a cough and says, "I fink I is sick. *cough*. Pwease to feed me chicky rice. *cough*"

Seriously, though, DH would feed Snoopy everything on his plate, but DD and I scolded him so much that when he gets his dinner, he grabs a dog treat to feed Snoopy while he eats. (I don't let Snoopy beg, though, which is defined as standing by DH and eyeing his food. He has to sit. Not sure quite how that makes it ok . . .)

Personally I end up talking for the dogs a lot, mostly though to Dad...the words are not as nice as your scenario...LOL! They encourage him to give mom her way! (that's horrid-it sounds so much worse than reality). Oh wait and for Elvis when we make fun of him! For example: the other dogs go 4x4-ing in the yard through the mud (we did a lot of plant tree removal this last summer/fall-its a mess out there) Elvis tip toes around and looks utterly livid (glares and growls) when either Princess of Scoobers somehow get him dirty...those words aren't so nice either but we're pretty hilarious though!

Scoobers ate a bar of soap once (half but still what dog does that!>? it was Black Bear Dinner soap made from pure nature ingredients like animal fat and well blackberry-which he does eat berries so maybe I see how it happened) the vet said to wait until after the first 24 hours of well uncontrollable explorable pottiness, and then give Pepto (same as for people) and then to feed him only plain rice and boiled chicken for a couple days...amazingly a typical meal is also a cure...just like it was for you guys!

Good for some to know on here in case they think in general "people food" is completely off limits-it does have a time and a place check out feeding RAW...so glad someone specified that 'human grade' is just a marketing term and not an actual technical term meaning anything truly defined.
