Play Time My puppy plays so much with my dog thats all he wants to do, they run around the coffee table chasing each other and he hides under the couch and jumps out at my dog thats to big to fit under the couch to get him. He doesn't want to cuddle with me, and if I pick him up he treats me like i'm another dog to be rough with. I'm not sure how to break him from this, but I want him to be close to me and not be so rough. If I pick him up he just wants back down to the dog, and if I pick my dog up, my puppy jumps at my leg for me to put Tocho down. Has anyone experienced this with multiple dogs? I hate to say it, but I'm almost jealous that my dog has a relationship with my puppy and I don't...lol. |
That sounds normal.... puppies just want to play play play. Some dogs are naturally more active than cuddlers. In general, Jackson would much rather be playing with another dog than with me but we have our moments too. I've established our bond through clicker training, agility classes, and just spending time with him, etc. I remember first bringing him home at 9 weeks old and he was so scared and confused, but once we got home and he saw my dads dog, he just lit up and his personality suddenly came out! We have an extremely tight bond, but he's still not really a cuddly dog at 2yrs old. He prefers me not to hold him for long, he rarely will actually sit on my lap and stay there for long periods of time... he sleeps in my bed every night though and always curls up next to my leg and he always has to be within seeing distance of me and follows me from room to room, and nothing beats his excitement when I walk in the door. He shows me affection in a different way and I don't mind it. :) Every dog is different! |
I don't have a lot of advice, but think of how tired you'd be if you had to play with him all of that time!:D Puppies have endless energy. What I could suggest is for you to get on the floor and play with him. Give him belly rubs if he'll be still long enough. Whenever his behavior becomes too rough, stop him and tell him no or say ouch very loud. He won't get it for awhile, but eventually he will understand. |
