new mom !! need advice pls .... Hi everyone ...i am a proud owner of a 6 wks old teacup....hes just adorable...just wanted to get some advice on the do and donts ...my main concerns is about his sleeping pattern at nite..he wakes up every 30 -45 mins and starts crying till i pick him up and then i usually wait till he falls asleep to put him back on bed..should i be more sensitive to his tears so am i already being a sucker....lol thank you and happy holidays... |
first off, congrats on your new baby but WOW, six weeks is REEEEALLLY young to be away fom mama already. If you don't have it already, go to your vet IMMEDIATELY and get some Nutrical. Babies that young and especially tinies, are really susceptible to hypoglycemia and can crash very quickly. Please keep a close eye and make sure he's eating well and often to keep blood sugar up. Even better, take him back to the breeder to stay with his mama another six weeks at least. Even though they're weaned, it's still important for them to be with their mama and littermates for at least twelve weeks as this is the time they learn most of their socialization and manners. if going back to the breeder for a little longer isn't an option, then please make sure someone is with him at all times for the next few weeks. |

When I brought Maximo home at 13 weeks old, I put his bed/piddle pad/water/food/toys in an xpen next to my bed, and I slept with my arm hanging into the pen and my hand nearly touching him. You can also try giving your pup a tshirt that you have worn to snuggle with in bed. Your scent will be comforting to him. ok thank you and another quick question when do i start to be strict and train him cause rt now i am letting him basically do anything ....he is potty trained but i think becus of the new surroundings hes peeing anywhere and everywhere... |
I would restrict his freedom inside your house using either an xpen or babygates to keep him in one room, or where you can supervise closely. At his age and in this cold weather, I would train to use piddle pads. You should start training now. Use pads with the attractant scent infused. Put him on the pad and use keywords and phrases telling him to "potty." When he does it correctly, lavish him with praise and give him a small treat. Be consistent and he will take to it. Never stop giving praise for good potty habits. Make sure the pad is easily accessible and understand that when they are this young and small, they need to go OFTEN. Don't scold for accidents. Just show him the pad. If you oppose the use of piddle pads, there are other methods, but someone with more knowledge and experience than I have will have to advise you about a suitable timeline in your pup's development. |
I wish you luck with him but really, I can't imagine letting a puppy go at that young of an age. I have puppies here who will be 6 weeks tomorrow and they are still nursing! I think it's incredibly sad that there are breeders out there willing to let a puppy go at that young of an age. I wish you good luck with him and hope that he is healthy and strong. As for training, he's basically an infant right now.... |

I would start right now with the potty training because the earlier you start the better. Do you have a specific way you plan to train him- crate training, an expen, tethering? Each way works, its all what you prefer- just make sure whatever you choose you stick with it and are consistent- it can take awhile. Good Luck! |
thank u very much for all the advice...i need all the help i can get...hes very well mannered and seems to be clinging on to me..which im loving...i will do watever it takes to make sure hes healthy and safe...i just dont want to hurt him....hes just too precious ... |
