God sent me a little angel Been lurking for awhile, thought I should introduce myself. Discovered the forum a few months back when my little girl had pancreatitis for the first time. Have been through 2 bouts of pancreatitis (with levels off the vets charts). She now eats ID exclusively, much to her chagrin, but she is truly a little fighter, and we have a bond that is unbreakable. Zoey's story, in brief: On July 4th, 2009, my wife and I had just stopped at a grocery store on the way to a friends house for a 4th of July get together. Shortly after pulling out of the parking lot onto a 6 lane road (3 each direction), all traffic was stopped with car doors open. Naturally, we open our doors, get out of the car, and people are all saying "catch the dog, catch the dog". After getting out of the car, within 10 seconds, out from under the car stopped next to us, a little dog comes running, and jumps into the passenger seat of my car! We both get back in, close the doors,a nd expect the owner to claim her. To our surprise, everyone else that had stopped got in their cars and drove off! So, here we are with a rather smelly little girl and noone to claim her. We first drove to a 24 hour emergency vet a mile or 2 away to have her checked for a microchip, and to see if anyone had reported a lost Yorkie. No luck. Being the 4th of July, no other vets were open, so we took her home, gave her a bath, and took her with us to the party, partially to keep an eye on her, and also afriad she might be eaten by what would become her new sisters (about 35 lbs each). After searching craigslist, the local papers, and driving around the area looking for signs for a couple of weeks, we gave up looking for a previous owner, we gave up the search and adopted her. She now goes by the name of Zoey, and has become my shadow around the house, not to mention the boss among the 4 legged children. So, hello yorkietalk! Looks some really great people here, looking forward to being involved. Merry Christmas to all, Scott |

Whata wonderful story. Zoey is so lucky to have jumped in your car. Merry Christmas to you and your family - welcome to YT! |
Welcome! What a great story. Little Zoey picked you for a reason....she knew you would love her and give her a safe home. What a blessing you were for this little one. Thanks so much for sharing. Would love to see pictures. |
Zoey does sound like an angel sent from above. I'm sorry she has pancreatitis. Merry Christmas to you and your family, too.:candyc1: |
I am so glad she jumped in your car. Welcome. |
Glad you stumbled on to YorkieTalk. So many people with so much advice. Welcome, we'd love to see pictures!:) |
Wow, overwhelming responses. Will post pics soon, I promise! I uploaded an avatar, does not appear to be displaying yet, assume I need a mimimum of posts, or admin approval, but will put some others up. Yes, Zoey is truly my little angel. The pancreatitis is under control for now, been good for a couple of months now. Trying very hard to keep all the 2 leggers from accidentally on purpose dropping anything for her. Happy to be here, and thank you all for the warm welcome! |
Welcome Welcome Scott & Zoey! Merry Christmas! Gizzy had severe pancreatitis when he was 6 yrs. old (was vomiting pure blood) and was on ID and pancreazyme for several years. It is definitely controllable. We just lost Gizmo at 14 from CRF not pancreatitis. As another member stated, it looks like Zoey picked you for a reason!! Healthy thoughts for you and your little ones! |
Welcome Scott and Zoey I'm so glad you rescued Zoey. We just rescued Oliver who was left in a carton on the side of Walgreens with his 3 sisters. Within 5 minutes all the dogs were adopted by someone in the crowd of people gathered there. I'm so glad we stopped to buy cigarettes. If it hadn't been for our disgusting habit we never would have gotten Oliver. |
Welcome to YorkieTalk, it sounds like your family and Zoey both got lucky on that July 4th. |
