It WORKED!!! Hello YT family! :) I used this recipe to remove the urine and smell out of my new carpet. Cerise had been peeing in an area away from her potty pads for about a week during the day while I was at work  It not only took the stains out but the smell and it smells fresh and clean in my place again :D Sadly now she will stay in the bathroom with a potty box and pad when I'm at work, until she is totally retrained :( Thank goodness the bathroom is large enough for her to play in ;) I had to mix a lot because I cleaned a large area. Natures Miracle just made the pee smell mixed with a sweet smell....grrrr, and I did use it properly. I also pulled the carpet back and cleaned under it too. Here it is: :thumbup::thumbup: Dog Urine Smell and Stain Remover Ingredients Baking Soda White Vinegar Liquid Dishwashing Detergent 3% Hydrogen Peroxide 1. If the area is still wet you should first attempt to absorb the dog urine. Leaving it there to dry out will only encourage bacterial growth which causes the smell. The best method is to place several layers of paper towel over the wet area and tread on it so as to soak up as much of the dog urine as you possibly can. You may have to repeat this several times until no more dog urine can be soaked up. Sometimes dog urine accidents have already dried because you did not notice them previously. You can find dried urine spots on your carpet with the aid of a black light. The dog urine stains will fluoresce under the ultra violet light in a darkened room. Hand held black lights are quite inexpensive usually costing between $15 - $25. Of course, you can always save the expense of a black light to find the odors by using your nose instead. 2. The next step is to mix a solution of fifty percent white vinegar and fifty percent water. You must use a liberal amount of this solution to reach the carpet fibers deep down. Work the solution in with a scrubbing brush to ensure it penetrates the carpet fibers below. Now blot the area again using the paper towel method above. The vinegar will neutralize the ammonia in the dog urine. If you own a wet/dry vacuum extractor use that to remove excess moisture. 3. When the area has dried or almost dried sprinkle a good handful of baking soda over the soiled area. Mix half a cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide with a teaspoon of detergent. Plain liquid dishwashing detergent is quite suitable. Do not use caustic dishwasher detergent. Put on a pair of rubber gloves and slowly pour the hydrogen peroxide and detergent mixture over the baking soda. Work the dissolving baking soda well into the carpet with your fingers or with a scrubbing brush. Allow the area to dry completely and then vacuum thoroughly. (from…Dog Chat) |
Thanks! I'm going to give this to my friend. His dog pees in the living room and this will help him! |
Thank you for the recipe -- I'm going to print it off and put it in my recipe file. BUT, I can hardly believe that precious little Cerise would tinkle on the carpet :D. |
Thank you for posting this...I had forgot all about how well this works. This solution sounds very similar to one that my FIL (wildlife biologist) gave us to remove skunk odor from our cattle dog a couple of years back when she had been sprayed. You could still smell a faint skunk odor just a bit but - hey, after all it was skunk, and I think that scent is almost impossible to completely remove with anything but time. I would caution about the peroxide, it may slightly bleach whatever you are using this on. I would test an inconspicuous area first. |
Just a word of warning- it's only a couple drops of the liquid detergent, other wise you end up with a bigger, sudsy mess than you started with! (yep, learned that one the hard way...) This is the same basic recipe that was posted here earlier this year. This is the version that I used with good results: 1 cup Hydrogen Peroxide 1 tablespoon baking soda 1 drop liquid hand soap |
Thanks for posting this. I want to add that I just bought a black light and  what i saw! I highly recommend purchasing a black light to see where all the urine stains are. I will definitely try this formula. |

Now she is pissed at me because I put her in the bathroom and she will not pee in the box. She destroyed my bath mat I had folded and placed on the toilet seat today by shredding it to pieces. The same mat she has seen since I got her. The same mat she has NEVER bothered before  She is turning into a preteen monster. LOL! But Mommy will NEVER give on her turning back into my sweet little girl! :) |
Thanks for sharing this! I will definitely have to try this out... Khloe seems to think any area rug is a potty pad  |

That will work for just in case in the future. I used a gallon of the mixed water and vinegar, a very large box of baking soda, and about five cups of the peroxide and dish liquid mix. It was a two day process because it was about 3-4 square feet of pee. But it is all gone now! :D |
