Yorkie is not sleeping! Help!! My yorkie is 8 months old. He had slept so well in his crate all night until about a month ago. He has now started whining and is terrified of his crate. He is keeping my husband and I up at night. How can we get him back to loving his crate? |
Did something happen to scare him in the crate? Is the crate used as punishment if he does something wrong? The way I solved the crate whinning was by letting the dogs sleep with me. They've slept through the night ever since.:D |
I went through the same thing with Rocco - I think he was about 7 months old when he started whining in the crate. I don't have a solution for you, since he now sleeps in our bedroom and he is excellent at night. Never did discover why he didn't like the crate any longer.. |
He could have hurt himself somehow or had a very bad dream. If the crate isn't in your room, I'd try that. We don't sleep with ours either. I like that they have their own bed, room, potty pads and water all night anyway. |
Try putting the crate in your bedroom so he can see you. that worked for me. |
Put the crate in your bedroom and elevate it on a table so it is level with your bed. This worked great for us. I was able to put my fingers inside the cage to calm him down and I think he though he was actually on the bed with us. |

I have the same problem with both of mine. Their kennels are in my bedroom, within my reach. It started happening the day my MIL passed Oct 29th. Ally would no longer go in her kennel. She just cried. I moved her kennel upstairs, downstairs, covered, not covered, treat, moved her in with Tia (separate kennels). Nothing worked. To this day, she doesn't want to go in there and shakes when I pick her to take her upstairs to go nite nite. The last couple of days Tia has been shivering too. Since MIL's passing, neither one will go upstairs by themselves to go nite nite. I really don't know what it is. It's not my behavior (worried) because I try everything to take their mind off of it and have tried everything. I have always given them a treat at bedtime because my elder pek gets one with her medicine in it. Both have refused to eat it! That was odd too! Good luck because I really don't have the answer! |
We have actually tried putting him in our room and he continues to bark. Sleeping in our bed is not an option, I really don't want to start that! Do any of you let him roam your house during the day? I think this may be a problem because we also crate him while we are at work. |

Are you walking him or having some vigorous play time before bed. If you don't want to give him the run of the house, perhaps an xpen or gated into the kitchen or laundry room is an option. |
They say that at about 8 mos. of age they go through some kind of fear stage. Maybe this is what it is. I never had a problem with Zeke because he has always slept with us. |
