I need advice.... My neighbor and very good friend is bringing home a morkie puppy tonight. He was born in September and has had his first round of shots. When am I able to introduce him to Trixie??....she is my 1 year old yorkie. I think it is after he has had his third round of shots .... somewhere in the area of 16 weeks old but believe it or not, have forgotten already. Also, what is the best way to introduce them....Trixie is still very very bouncy since she is only a year old....well socialized with other pups, but I want to make sure she is ...I don't know....gentle with him??? This will be her first introduction to a puppy...she is good with other dogs and people (okay maybe a little dominating) What is your advice. I would like these two to get along as my other friends have much larger dogs - goldendoodle and I cannot let her play with that puppy!! Thanks. |
I don't see why you would have to wait. You know she is free of disease so she wouln't be bringing it to him. And, she is vaccinated (I'm assuming ) so he shouldn't be a risk to her. Like, when you bring a new dog home, they get introduced immediately. I would do the introduction at her home though not at like a dog park or Petco. |
no clue on the timeframe for vaccinations, but for the intros I'd do it on neutral ground ..... a dog park weather permitting, petsmart, or a mutual friend's house who isn't a pet owner, eliminate the chance that either of them would feel the need to protect their turf |

I forgot to add that knowing most puppies, then you probably won't need to worry about her being a bit dominating. Most puppies dive in head first, so she may well be the one to find a hiding place after awhile.:) |
