Yorkie Splash and Shine-? I know I should probably be posting this in the Grooming section...but I was thinking about ordering this for my Yorkie's as Christmas gifts-last minute rush! Has anyone tried this before I was kind of stoked to read made specifically formulated for Yorkies...but maybe that's just a marketing statement? I usually use my own shampoo on my dogs but hmmmm it's getting expensive....here's their site and the link is in their about us thingy where they talk about it being specially formulated... About Us - Yorkie Splash and Shine |
Yorkie splash & shine is the best it smells so good and makes my babies look wonderful |
There are tons of reviews on here about that product. I like the products :) |
I am going to try to be very careful about this as there is another contentious thread on it already. I tried it and did not like it at all. As her website says, the actual smell and consistency may vary from batch to batch. Mine really did not have much smell to it and was as thin as water. I did not like that consistency myself -- but others may like it. I like the nice thick consistency that will stay where I put it. I also had to use quite a lot of product to get any kind of lather at all. I asked the owner about that issue and she said to just keep putting more directly on the back. I did not think that would be cost effective in the long run. I was not keen on how it left the pups' hair either -- the shine I get from Minksheen, Espree products, or Fluffy Pupppy was missing with this product. I was warned that the first few times the dogs hair would have a waxy feel but that would go away after several uses. I did not give it several uses so may have missed some benefit. Ben has silky hair and I just did not like what this product did for us. I can definately recommend the others I mentioned above. I usually use Minksheen. I was not crazy about the smell of this one but it is all natural, has natral pesticide properties (flea-free for over a year with no other products!), natural antibotic properties, and natural conditioners that leave a shine like you would not believe! I also love Espree products and think the Luxury Remoisturizer is a Godsend! I am going to admit I have even used it on my own over color-treated hair with gret results. I also like their Hypo-allergenic Coconut Shampoo. The last product I use is Biogroom Fluffy Puppy -- use on pups up to a year and on all my dogs faces as it is no-tears. If I use the Espree Hypo-allergenic Coconut Shampoo, I don't switch to Fluffy Puppy for the face as it is naturally tear free too. I switch the Espree products in occasionally for a ncie change in smell. Love Espree product smells! |
Debra it is great using the foamer bottle |
i used it last night for the first time. shampoo worked well, didnt have to use much. conditioner i had to use more. spray/detangler smells good! :-) |
My experience was pretty much the same as Debra's (above post). I thought the shampoo was too thin, didn't care for the the texture of my yorkies coats. The one thing I did like about YS&S though was the scent. The conditioner I didn't care for either. I know lots of members do like it, so you might want to at least try a sample set. |

I love the shampoo and absolutely recommend the foamer bottle. I have the pumpkin spice detangler too. I started with the sample pack and moved up when I ran out. Hope you like it too. |
:animal-paI have tried all different types of shampoo and I ordered the sample Splash and Shine Shampoo and I liked it so well that I ordered a larger amount as soon as I tried it. I have two yorkies one with a cotton coat and one with a silky coat and it is the only shampoo and conditioner that I have used that REALLY helps with the matts expecially on my cotton coated yorkie. They are sooo soft. Get the foamer bottle for sure and order the sample but I feel sure that you will love it. Good luck! |
Thank you all for your advice...I'm going to give the Splash and Shine a try in trial size and good to know I need a foamer bottle for it...also good to know it works better on cottony coats-I've a Miniature Schnauzer here-she mats up so quickly its not funny, my Yorkie & Schnorkie have silky coats tho. I've heard a lot about the Minksheen-I like all of its features and I'd definitely try it on myself-I swear Mellow Mut was the best jerky I've ever had-chamomile is a lil too different for me tho-hm maybe it's pregnancy hormones I use tons of questionable products but do you know the origin of Mink oil-? I'm a little freaked out about it right now...Espree products look pretty interesting too so I might go there I have a specialty white coat shampoo I purchased awhile ago from a pet boutique for Princess, and I felt the same way about the smell it was so perfumed-if it bothered me OMG it must have driven her crazy-I ended up washing her in Dawn to get the smell off-of course she (the nature of all white dogs right) immediately rolls in the dirt outside and comes in mud covered and stinky...I'll post again and let everyone know how it goes! Thanks again for the fast responses everyone-hopefully I can place an order in time! |
so far, so good I used this about 3 days ago on Maisie and I really like it (i got the trial pack). She is super soft and fluffy and hasn't gotten oily like she usually does after a day or so after a bath. Also, she smells really good! |
I Love Love Love the detangling spray. Works great on my show yorkies coats and all my yorkies. It's keeps their hair from breaking when you brush them wet or dry. Their coats look, smell, shine, feel incredible.:D I highly recommend this product. |
ahhh, good to know that you can put it on dry. I will try that between baths. |
I love the Yorkie splash products....but i for got my password  |
WARNING! Yorkie Splash and shine has rosemary oil which induces seizures in epileptics...DO NOT use it on your epileptic dog and consider not using it at all if your dog comes in contact with an epileptic (dog or person). Elvis had a trip to the ER new years day...he's fine now and I did talk to the owner or Yorkie Splash and Shine and they are considering a new formulation specific to epileptics but it won't be available for at least a year and will be a special order item most likely. Elvis is fine now and we are continuing his seizure treatments by our new vet but it was another scare and I feel awful I should have researched it bit better...hope no one else makes my mistake. |

I notice many dog shampoos do not reveal the ingredients on the bottles. I think it is really nice that Yorkie Splash shows the ingredients on the bottles. I would have continued buying them if they work well on Blue. Unfortunately, Blue felt too waxy. :( |

Blue is cottony. I read in another thread that people have problem with waxy thing and I assumed that it'd be enough for the owner to take that into consideration. I'm glad Elvis is okay now. What a scare for you all! |
My sheltie has epilepsy and I have used splash and shine on him with no problems what so ever so maybe it only triggers siezures in certain dogs. Im sorry that your poor elvis has to go through what he did. Glad to hear he is ok now. Thats great that they are willing to work on a new product without the rosemary in the shampoo. |
Oh wow how scary!! :( |
We haved used and love Yorkie splash & Shine since went on sale no problems in any way... this is by far our favorite one after trying so many |

I hope your dog is being treated with medication for his seizures and is doing ok in that regard. |
Sorry that should have been 50 baths (not 150). Hate typing from my phone LOL |
