mom keeps growling and pouncing on pups puppies are about 10 weeks now, and their mom keeps pouncing and biting their snouts shut, i'm sure she's just lightly doing this, but the puppies usually end up whining and trying to flee for their lives. this can almost last for about 2-3 minutes until i start to separate them because the puppy is just whining endearingly. is this normal?? is the mom suppose to act so somewhat mean and vicious? what steps should i take if any? |

I don't recall hearing other new litter mommies acting that way :( Try to find a breeder and message them about it. |
Just curious. What are the pups usually doing when mom does this? |
MY cat did that to her kittens and I read it is normal they are teaching them |
mom pouncing at puppies Belle's mom was a 6.5 pound Yorkie who had a litter of 7 babies. The breeder I got Belle from said Katie, the mom was totally overwhelmed by the puppies at her all the time and she had begun snapping at them. The puppies were taken away and hand fed. My vet says Belle is well socialized but I see her doing things that usually the mom takes care of in her own way. I think some of the agression toward the babies is to teach them what not to do. Belle would play kind of rough when she was first with us at 12 wks. she would bite harder then she should. I started grabbing her by the scruff and giving her a little shake and it didn't take long for her to know that was not acceptable. |

I know this serious, but this is where my mind went. She might be the type of momma, "kids should be seen, not heard". |
