Surgery Tomorrow Hey Everyone, I have a full grown Yorkie. He is 3lbs and is 11 months old. Tomorrow he is going in to get neutered and 2 baby teeth pulled (the long top ones) at the same time. I know I am a worry wort but how long should I be with him after this procedure gets done? I worry about going back to work when he is in pain. I work and live at the same community I live in so I can go home anytime to check on him and give him medicine. I am off work tomorrow & the following day after. I go back to work Wednesday. Any Suggestions I should do before and after the surgery? The vet told me at midnight tonight take away all his food but leave him a little water. Please help! This is my baby and it natural to worry about them. |
If you're not working again until Wed. you'll be with him the day of his surgery and the day after. Most likely he will be fine to be at home alone by then, especially with you checking on him during the day. Make certain he is not licking at his surgery area, if he does you may want to use a cone with him. |
I just dropped him off. It was so sad giving him over to them :( Ive been thinking about him all morning. They said they would call be before 10AM to keep me posted on how it went then I would have to pick him up after 4. I will be there right at 4 to see him. I hope he is doing ok. He was soo scared and shaking when I dropped him off. It just breaks my heart :( |

I sure will. They said they would call me after to let me know how it goes but I have not heard anything...I might call them to see how it went. |
Hope he will be ok... it's a basic procedure so he will be fine.... he will want lots of hugs and kisses and snuggles for the rest of the day. In a week he will be like new. |
Will he be able to eat??? should I feed him anything different? |
By the second day post op, my boy was back to thinking he could do anything. My job became keeping him from trying. Your little one should be fine by the time you have to go back to work. Just keep him crated or in his expen for safety. You are very lucky that you work close to where you live. I know that knowing I could go home for a quick check on my babies would make me feel better. |

he probably isn't going to feel like doing anything but sleep....I would play it by ear and give him his usual...you dont' want to give him something different and it upset his stomach. He will eat if he feels up to it. When you bring him home he will be groggy and want to sleep. Let him. He will also try licking the incision...try to keep him from doing this or from jumping off furniture. The vet will give you a set of rules for him. :) |
ok...Thanks! :) |
I know just how you feel. I had Zach done on Saturday and I was just like you. He also had some baby teeth removed. He was just fine. He most likely won't eat the first day. Zach only drank a small amount of water but he slept most of the time. I was a wreck all day waiting for the vet to call. My problem now is keeping Zach quiet. He is so hyper it's very hard to control him. |
do we have an update? How's he doing? |
He's doing good. He hates the cone but other that he's doing ok. :) thanks for asking |
I'm glad he's doing ok.:) |
