Are Yorkie's burrowers? Not sure if I spelled that right...but do Yorkie's like to be wrapped up in blankets? I have found that Hinckley likes this blanket I got her but I wasn't sure if it's big enough and she might want to be in it like burrowed. Are Yorkies burrowing dogs? |
I don't know if it's generally true of Yorkies, but Tallulah likes to burrow so much I worry a little about her suffocating herself. If she can't cover her whole body, she will settle for hiding her face. |
One of Dinky's favorite thing is to be wrapped in a blanket. When it's cold at night, he crawls under the blanket so far that I worry he could smother. On the sofa he can't really sleep, unless he is covered by a blanket. So mine is absolutely a burrower. |
that's cute...I have covered in the blanket...all but her head and she hasn't moved for hours. We kept someones dachsund before and they burrowed in the blanket so much that you didn't even know they were in there....so I wasn't sure if Yorkies were that way too and I was depriving Hinckley. |
Yes, yorkies like to burrow. But burrowing can be something other than being wrapped up in a blanket. They often like to crawl under beds to sleep and other such places. I think it probably goes back into their ancestry.:D |
That explains it then...Hinckley has started sleeping under our bed in the last few months. I have even found her going behind the couch for a while. :) Thanks! |
Thor is very anti-burrow, so much so that if he sees me lift a blanket up, he will rear back on his hind legs and try to fight it. One of the standard intelligence tests they give dogs is to throw a blanket over them and see how long it takes them to get out. I always felt like this was is biased against little guys like Thor, but sometimes when I didn't want to deal with him, I would throw a blanket over him and he would be totally immobilized. To his credit, he did eventually figure out how to crawl out from under the blanket and do whatever I was trying to prevent (usually barking at visitors). But he clearly believes that when it comes to blankets, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. One thing I found interesting is that I moved his crate slightly so it's obscured from view, and he totally loves being in there now. It was always sort of behind a piece of furniture, but an extra foot or so made all the difference. |
All three of ours love to sleep under the covers at night...we can never figure out how they breathe under there bc it bugs me even to have part of the sheet over my mouth. |
haha... Hinckley thinks she owns the house. She just crawls on our bed and sleeps whereever she wants. She hasn't crawled under the covers yet. But I have seen her try to move things around before she lays down on the blanket like she is picking at it to try to move it. :animal-pa |
Lily loves to burrow. She will "dig" until she find her spot be it the bed, the couch.... She will sleep right next to me under the covers and sometimes put her head under the pillow. I always move it..I'm afraid she'll suffocate :) |

She is always cold, even with a sweater on, so she loves to be warm at night. |
This is an interesting thread...I have one, Buzz, the boy, who likes to be buried, deep, under the covers...My Apple, likes to be uncovered in a warm puff ball (I have a heating disc in there for her...Cha Cha likes to be covered up, w/her head out...They're all so dead-gum cute, and different...I think each pup has their own way of doing business :D |
You'd think with six, one of them would burrow...nope, not one. They all are above the covers which kinda suck because that means they trap me in. When they lay on top they in essence tuck the covers around me and I can't move without flipping them off. I'd rather they burrow. The cats...they burrow. |
Haha, we had three comforters on the bed last night (our apartment doesn't have an option to change the heat, it's centralized :S) so Harley jumps up and crawls deep under the blankets between Matt and I. I also always worry that he can't breath under there. I'd love to let him sleep with us, but every time I close my eyes he starts jumping on my face. He wont sleep, only when we're awake and giving him belly rubs. |

haha...Hinckley will lay on top of the covers and lays right up against my stomach (I'm a side sleeper) and if my hubby is home (he usually works 3rd shift) I can't sleep with both of them. I feel trapped too...add in hot flashes and the dog has to go. But she is such a snuggle bum. Anyone that climbs into a bed she runs from the other side of the house and jumps into bed. :) |

Sammy likes to be wrapped in a blanket but he doesn't like it on his face. Even after a bath he doesn't like the towel on his face. |
Lil' Miss Izzie isn't one for burrowing...but she does like to snuggle up right next to me in bed..:animal36 |
chester is, he gets his head started and just works it so all I see is his butt or nothing sticking out, especially when it is colder out, as it is now |
Toby is a big time burrower! He goes all the way down to the bottom of the bed sometimes under the comforter, blanket and sheet. I agree with others, I don't see how they can breathe when they go that far down but he loves being covered up. He constantly tries to bury his head when he is all curled up on the couch or in his doggy bed. He's my little snuggle butt and I'm loving it. |
