my only complaint about my 3lb baby is he KNOWS I can't get him when he hides under stuff, a 9lb yorkie may not be able to get under chairs, beds, couches, etc. a 3lb CAN!!!! Harley gets this look on his face as if to say, "screw you mom, I don't want to come now, and I KNOW you can't get me!!!! HAHAHA"

Harley plays with a 10lb yorkie who is his "big brother" they baby sit him (they are cousins). I think it depends on how timid or playful the rescue is.

It will really depend on how they play together and their personalities. This is a for sure meet each other before you decide what to do. I have an almost 3 lb boy and he is just fine with everyone and mostly plays with our 5 1/2 lb male. My stepmoms dog is 15ish? (not a yorkie) and VERY hyper. We have to be very careful when they are around each other. My friend has a 12 lb shihtzu and they all get along great with her :)

My Yorkie was 12 weeks and about 3 lbs when we brought him home. We have an almost 2 year old, 65 lb Basset Hound. I was so worried about them playing, but in short order the Yorkie let the Basset know he was the boss and they are just fine! The Yorkie has never been afraid of the Basset. I wanted a tiny dog but I'm kind of glad that mine will probably be 5 or 6 lbs because they can be fragile. They play kind of rough sometimes but the Yorkie has never been hurt. The Basset is never mean to him either. The Yorkie on the other hand....he likes to bite the Basset's long ears and tail!

I agree about needing to be much more vigilant and careful with all Yorkies, especially the smaller ones. We replaced our banister in our home many years ago and had additional posts so that they were placed closer together. Still, we worried about our girls falling through. We had pieces of plexiglass made that we placed along the posts of the banister. It gave us much more peace of mind. I still had to watch my little one a lot around the stairs. Gracie would "fly" up the stairs if I let her. She also liked to steal all the toys from her sisters and brought them all downstairs. They were small stuffed animals, but I still worried about her falling with them in her mouth. Gracie was small, but it had no effect on how much spunk she had. I always worried about all of my babies, but Gracie needed extra protection and care.

You might try to find out why she was given up...maybe she is feisty and uncontrollable, but that's always a risk when getting a dog from a shelter without a true known history ... sometimes people give up dogs because they're selfish and other self-serving reasons, sometimes they give up dogs that turned out to be uncontrollable, biting, etc., and they opted to give it to a shelter rather than destroy it, or maybe it was a lost dog and some kind person found it and turned it in, therein lies the problem...what is this dog's history particularly regarding its sociability?? Good Luck, maybe you could try it "on condition" that it gets along with your current dog (and vice versa)???

BTW -- I more often have to save the bigger two from Annie now. She is relentless with wanting to play. The other two want to rest and she is still raring to go. I have to go entertain her separately so they don't lose patience with her.

My little guy plays with a 70ish pound Chocolate lab all the time, but then again he is a good 9pounds and pretty solid. You guys think 9 and 3 is too big of a size diffrence?? I am planning on spoiling this little girl for sure, she will be a princess and I was thinking on getting stairs for high things so she can learn to use those instead of jumping. Actually a few rescues (even YTNR) I talked to say they are willing to adopt out of state as long as you are willing to go to them and you show pictures of your house and backyard. I have been thinking about this little girl non-stop, she sounds so sweet and her little face is so sad I just want to be the perfect home for her but I don't want to put her in dangerous situations, I was planning on leaving the 2 together when I have to go places but if 8lbs and 3lbs is a bad mix then maybe I need to look for something bigger :(

p.s.- The bell thing is a great idea!
Thanks! We think they're adorable too! Darwin is our 7 1/2 pound yorkie and he and Mabel really rough house when they get going without any problems. If anything, it's Mabel who does most of the attacks. It sounds like this little girl has made a real impact on you and I think she would be really lucky to end up in your home. We leave our two with each other all of the time and don't even think about it. Of course, we don't let Zain with Darwin and Mabel unless we are in the same room, although he's always been really gentle around them. Follow your instincts and let us know what you decide!:)
