Clothes - Calming Effect? Has anyone noticed if having clothes on makes their yorkies calmer? |
No. Chip and Smokey start running around the house like they do when they get out of the bath... freaking out, rubbing against everything, rolling around... they're crazy! When Chip was little I would put shirts on him and when I turned around, he had figured out how to take the shirt off. |
notice that also I have also notice that when we put a sweather or shirt on Winston he seems to settle down or calm himself. I bought him a pair of PJ's and he snuggles in his crate in his bed at night. He is like a little ball in his bed and he looks so cute. How does yours act? |
During a thunderstorm, clothes can reduce the amount static electricity a pup senses, so a nice tight shirt can help keep them calm. Other than that, I have noticed that Thor moves less when he has clothes on, but I think that's because he feels constricted, not relaxed. |
I have no idea what my boys are feeling when I put shirts on them. Maybe stunned or petrified could be the word. I may have to do that to keep my 12 lber from really hurting himself. He thinks the living room, kitchen, and dining room is the indy 500 racetrack. |
I know that when I put clothes on mine they definitely lay around and move less but it isn't because they like clothes it is because they are uncomfortable. Once I take them off they go nuts rubbing themselves on the carpet. |
Once I put an alligator Halloween costume on Joey and he stood as still as a stature; it was just too big! I bought a custom made shirt for Joey that fits him perfectly, and I learned that size is very important. They don't like things that are too tight or too lose. Also, tags can have little nylon things pricking them, so make sure what they are wearing fits right, and is comfortable. |
With Tinkerbell, the nutcase, when I put her PJ's on she calms down, but I think it's bc she gets comfy warm... She's silver and has a thin coat, so she retains less heat than my other three. I think she likes it too, bc she doesn't fight with me when getting dressed, and I think it makes her feel real special too.:D |
I've heard of anxiety wraps for dogs...for car rides, vet trips, thunderstorms, de-senstizing bc of trauma. Here is one example: Canine Anxiety Wrap Clothes may help in the same way :). |
1 Attachment(s) Mine love clothes and pj's when they get cold. When they are hot they do everything they can to get out of them. |
1 Attachment(s) Jemma did anything to remove her clothes. She would even get stuck in them trying to get them off. She is 2 now and about 4 months ago she actually started to leave them on. she still takes them off if she wants too, but usually they stay on. Here is she when she was younger caught in a sweater she was trying to get off. No I didn't let her stay like that, lol. Just long enough to snap this picture. If you click on the picture it will enlarge. |
Cerise loves her t-shirts for bedtime. And the sweaters or tops for when we go out and about, she rushes to put them on. Once I get her dressed and comb her hair she is READY to go! She even starts fussing at me to hurry up! I can only put clothes on her when it's cooler out. In the summer I just put her in pretty barrettes and harnesses, because it is so hot here. |
Dayzee, my teapot Yorkie, used to calm down considerably, when I put a T-shirt or a dress on her. So I guess it must depend on the dog's personality. I think she thought of her clothes as punishment or time out time. |
Roxie does not like clothes. She actually becomes really mopey when I put a fleece or sweater on her. She lays around and doesn't want to play or anything. As soon as I take them off she is right back to her old self. She gets cold easily and shivers a lot, so I thought she would like the clothes...I guess not. |
