Hi all...I have sent an email to the breeder stating that we will not be picking our puppy up at 8 weeks. I do want to say that she has not told me to pick the pup up at 8 weeks...just that they would be ready then (with vet approval). Will keep you posted on her reply! Thanks so much for all of the advice! It is MUCH appreciated! : ) |

Maybe Ben is saying the being gone is the "bad" part. He will pout a little but I can always get him out of it with enough kisses & hugs. He is so funny like that. He can't resist the high-pitched lovey-dovey voice. ;) Even moreso, he cannot resist if he thinks the other two might be getting some attention. They all have their own little personalities. People without pets never fully understand the depth of their intelligence and individuality. |

I am buying a Yorkie puppy and it will not be ready until February. The lady says she is a registered breeder. She breeds CKC yorkies. She sell's her puppies strictly by word of mouth, no advertising she says. She said she doesn't ever give her baby yorkies vaccines or wormings. She said because they are so little, it would be dangerous. She let's the new owner bare the cost and says she doesn't make any money off of breeding because of how much the vaccines have gone up. I could see that and understand...I'm waiting until it is 9 weeks old so that I can get her started on wormings and vaccines she needs because she won't have them before then. I have just recently bought a Yorkie puppy at age 11 weeks and the breeder is a registered AKC breeder who has given all of the wormings and vaccines before we picked her up. Except for the last set of shots. I will take her for that. But my question is this, how come the breeder of the pup I have now (Izzy) has had all but one set of shots and all her worming at 11 weeks and she is just as small as the other CKC ladies litter I'm to get a pup from? Am I making sense? What is your opinion? I just think if she cared about her puppies well being...if she can't afford to give them shots at the proper time then maybe she shouldn't be breeding dogs? Am I right? *sigh* |

Thanks Nancy I have the AKC Yorkie pup we picked up from the breeder at 11 weeks...she was 2.7 lbs then and now weighing her at Vet yesterday she is weighing in at almost 3 lbs at 15 wks. She's the one that had all but one set of shots left and we took her to get them and also she had all wormings by 11 wks too. This breeder had excellent health records of shots given and wormings etc...and a nice packet in plastic vinyl for our records. Now the puppy that was born yesterday evening will be CKC and she is the breeder that says she doesn't want to give the pups shots or wormings and it's up to us as owner's to do this. Well, bottom line is, I not knowing any better has sunk 250.00 down payment into this puppy. That's the problem. Should I get this puppy and get her shots and wormings and take the chance of her coming into contact without any of her shots to my yorkie AKC pup? Or get the puppy get her shots then sell her? Or just forfeit my down payment? Geesh, I am so stupid for not being more careful, flags should have hit me in the face!!!! GRRRRRRrrrrrr:mad: |

Thanks guys, I have decided to forfeit the deposit. I want a healthy puppy and to find a breeder who is trustworthy and cares about their puppies and the need to place their puppies in the very best of homes. Nancy, thank you for helping me...you guys are the best :) It's sad that I had my hopes up for Izzy to have a friend and now they are shattered. But a lesson learned...for me & my dear husband, we will be more cautious when finding another breeder. |

Yes, capt_noonie, I am open to knowledge and experience. That is why I came to join this forum. I realize all of you have the knowledge I haven't at this point. I am learning everyday by reading. Not defensive at all. Yes, 250.00 is a lot of money these days but I would rather forfeit now because I love the little 15 week old Yorkie I have now so much that I don't want to endanger her with what could come with a sick puppy. I'd never forgive myself if I did that. I am off on the quest to find another breeder, because I really want a puppy to grow up with my Izzy. She is such a sweet puppy and I know when I see the puppy I want and the breeder I feel is legit, I will know it. Lesson learned. Julie |

I would not buy a puppy that came fom a place with worm problems. My puppies do not get wormed because my adults do not have worms. And the only way a puppy could get worms is if they are in contact with dogs that have them. |

I should have read the rest of the thread before I posted. I recommend you calling a breeder, and asking her if this is a good time to speak. Set up an appointment for a future call if she's busy. You can learn so much! |

What concerns me about this particular breeder is that if she is skipping all shots and worming due to costs, then she is most likely skipping other vetting as well. |

That is true Rhett's mama, I had a gutt feeling about her and when she told me this, I decided to forfeit my deposit. I lost the deposit but I think I am making the right decision. I am having a hard time finding a breeder with YTCA that will sell their puppies without being spayed. Not to mention none of them are answering their phones & emails are being bounced back to me :( Getting discouraged about Izzy a sister now  |
Megansmoma, awe that is sweet! I am willing to listen and learn all that someone with knowledge has to offer. I am a part of this forum and very pleased to be with all of you who know more of this beautiful breed, Yorkie...and want to know all I can, like a sponge, I am soaking all of it in! Thanks for the encouraging words. Julie |

Thanks for all of your concerns but no on both accounts. I am just exploring my options and doing some research as I go, but thank you. Being careful and watching & learning who I can trust and who I can't. This will all take time...again, thanks for all of your concerns. All of you are being very helpful in my learning who you are and who is helpful in my quest to learn more about yorkies ;) |
I just wanted to say this, if the pup doesn't have shots and your "ACK Yorkie" does your dog should be okay just not the pup...not entirely though bringing any dog into your home creates the oppertunity for all types of issues...even a dog with vacs. can carry parasites, fleas, worms, ticks, general creepy-eepies. |
