Rule of thumb for me .......Where I go,,,My babies go also. Sophie was really good on the road. I took her to Tennesse with me, twice, and she was the best road partner ever. Scooter and Sadie like to go for a ride but they have yet to be on a long trip with me. I can not wait till that happens |
Dog trips Sorry, but I have to disagree. Yes, dogs miss Mom and Dad, but the stress of traveling is a little too much for both parents and baby. Doggy will miss you, you'll miss doggy, but Grandma is what everyone needs! Unless, of course, Grandma is elderly and might trip on the baby! It's a dog who'll be more happy with a routine, IMHO. |

We just got back from Dallas sunday night. We go every two months. It's an 11-12hr drive. We took the 6pack with us, always do. I put diapers on all the girls. They hold their water the entire time. I always arrive with dry diapers, they are for just in case. As soon as we arrive they squat and pee, in the diaper... I watch for their poop rituals and take off the diaper and get them on linoleum so I can clean up the tootsie rolls. Then back go the diapers. I use Pampers. Works great. They are pad trained and when not at home other people's throw rugs are just too tempting, so this is less stress on all of us. Diaper them for the ride home. No problems. The boys get a potty stop when we get gas, the 1/2 way point and when we arrive, about every 6hrs. This is to visit our grandchildren. Boarding them would cost a fortune, I'd miss them, they'd miss us, and the granddaughter's would be devastated. |
I took both my babies on a road trip in August and we were driving for 8 to 12 hours for two days in a row. I didn't feed them the morning of the trip just when we arrived and I let them drink just a little bit of water. We only stopped for gas and then I was taking them for a short walk. I had them both in the rear seat of the car with a harness that it was attached to the seat belt buckle. I can assure you that they were far more happier than an other time that I left them home with my mom. Maria |

Doggy will miss you, you'll miss doggy, but Grandma is what everyone needs! Unless, of course, Grandma is elderly and might trip on the baby! It's a dog who'll be more happy with a routine, IMHO. Well from personal experience I know that my dogs are more stressed when I leave them. |
If it were me, I'd take her with me. Provided you can adequately supervise her while you're on your trip (i.e., at wherever you're staying), I think she would much prefer to be with you all. I travel with Vinnie all the time and he has really become an excellent traveler over the years. |
Take her I would take her! We started taking Pnut at about 4 months, He went everywhere with us, and still does. I think he is use to it bc I started taking him so young! Just get a little bed and a blanket so she can be comfy on the travels, Pnut usually will sit on Daddy's lap and look out of the window! I think she would rather be with you, and you wouldn't worry as much about her if you take her! |
