Beware the heat vent! This morning I heard all this noise and screaming from poor Bandit and my 2 other yorkies start barking at the top of their lungs and I hear metal banging.I run to see whats going on ,I find the heat vent about 10' from the hole .The only thing i can figure is Bandit has a bone charm on his collar and he layed his head down on the heat vent and it dangled down and turned sideways. When he went to get up he jerked the heat vent with him.thank god he didnt fall into it.He loves the blow dryer but I didn't know he was laying on the heat vents. What if I wasn't home?I wanted to let everyone know so they could beware.P.S.Bandit was okay just shaken a little. |
Poor thing!! Thanks for the heads up!!!! Glad he is OK!!! :) |
Thanks for the heads up. Mac and Mellie love to lay in front of the heat duct. |
poor babies, I am glad that no one got hurt! |
So glad he's OK!!! :) :) Reall glad you were home!!! Thanks for the warning!!!!  |
Aww, I bet he was scared. I have been thinking about that and now that I've read your story, I think I am going to purchase some of those plastic covers or something. |
My Laila is sooooooo deathly afraid of heat vents! They are like the devil to her. It is the only thing in the house she is really really scared of. If her bones or toys are w/in about 2 feet of a vent she will cry and cry till you go get it for her. She won't be getting anywhere close to those scarey vents! haha! She is such a woss... ohhh... scarey vents. |
Thank you for the warning! So scary how quickly something bad could potentially happen! I am glad everyone was ok!! |
Glad he is OK. This isn't the first time this has happened. It is, however, a very good reason not to leave collars and harnesses on them when they are home. |

That must be really scary. Good to know he is doing better. |
I had a LOT of problems with collars and Laila. When I first got her she was fine w/ her collar... few days later I found her in her pen w/ the collar wrapped around her like a patrol belt. I was so freaked I swore I would never use one again. They I decided it might just be that the collar was too loose. I ordered a very very tiny collar with her name on it and spent $30+ on this little thing. I go to put it on her... looks great. Go to put something on the counter and I hear this piercing scream. It was Laila!! She had gotten her little mouth into the collar that was soooo tiny (never would of thought she could do that!) and she couldn't get it out. She was screaming like she was having a heart attack! I was so scared that I ran for the scissors while my mom is frantic screaming "cut it off cut it off." It was the most aweful experience I have had to date w/ Laila, 10 months. So I ran and cut it off and massaged her jaw for a little bit. It was horrible, and we were all shaken! My expensive leather collar was then thrown in the trash, and I have never tried again. They are so small they can wiggle into anything! Laila could have broken her jaw or worse had I not been around. I now use a harness ONLY, but at all times. I have bought a ton of ID tags, one for each harnass and I leave them on her all the time. I only take it off when she is sleeping. There is not so much worry w/ a harness, and Laila seems to find it more comfortable. I've seen lots of Yorkie's w/ collars, but I guess it just isn't for us. Please be careful if you are 'training' a Yorkie to wear a collar! Keep a close eye on them! |
This is quite common as someone posted and is a good reason to avoid the bone shaped tags in particular and any dangling tags at all. I leave a break\away cat collar with a flat ID tag attaced flat on the collar, not dangling to my yorkies at all times. They also make bendable rubber tags so they collapse if they get into anything and pull on them. When we leave the house they wear harnesses too. Mine are microchipped as well since I want every possible ID in case they did get lost or stolen. I am so glad you were home and Bandit was okay. |
