I had no idea Just got this in my pet insurance newsletter, thought it was interesting as I had never thought of it before.. Rubbed the Wrong Way - There's an unlikely new danger facing pets in the home: topical estrogen hormone cream. Researchers found that hormone cream - used by women to counteract the symptoms of menopause - was inadvertently transferring to their pets via belly rubs and other displays of affection. Worryingly, the transferred hormone had an adverse effect on our best friends' health: spayed female dogs and cats showed symptoms of heat, while male dogs showed swollen breast tissue and hair loss. Another great reason to wash your hands before (and after) playing with Fido. |

That's interesting....it's amazing all the little things we normally don't think about, and what effect they can have on our little ones. I'm trying to think if I know anyone who uses the estrogen cream so I can warn them about this. Thanks for sharing the info! |

What about estrogen patches? Know of any research that shows adverse affects to dogs. I'm thinking that maybe or skin might excrete small amounts of the estrogen through the sweat glands. |

I'm glad you re-posted this bc it's the first time i'm seeing it and my mom uses cream like this. I just sent her an e-mail in big letter to read it! Thanks for posting! |
Wow, I didn't know about this either. |
Interesting... It's crazy the things you don't think of that can harm our pups :( |

Some are on here everyday and read everything, but I miss days and sometimes weeks and months on here. So thanks for re-posting this, as I did not get a chance to see it the first time. PS... no need to apologize for showing concern for others. This is a characteristic that never ceases to be undervalued ...thanks again |
I didn't see it before, either. It's interesting the things that can harm our little one's - things you'd never give any thought about. |
I missed this one too... but would like to add: Hands should be washed before and after application of the creme, as it can cause other things to get absorbed into one's system, and it can not only transfer to pets, but other people as well, like husbands, children and grandchildren.... |
