New Mommy 3 Attachment(s) Hi I'm Charly, I've been lurking since June when I decided to become a Yorkie mom, Then I had to wait until he was born. Now the time has come and he will be home with me on Dec 23rd right before Christmas. His Grandma has been emailing me pictures, but yesterday evening I drove a hour and a half to see my " Dolce"... I was always told that the puppies choose you, and I picked him up and he cuddled up on me and licked me and went to sleep. I feel in love... So he is currently on Wellness puppy food, and he was the second to last to be born. I can't wait to bring him home. Is their anything I should know about raising a Yorkie pup, like the secrets to them. the Do's and Don't of a being a new mom, any advice will be greatly appreciated. I look forward to meeting you all.;) |

Hello and welcome to YT! Congratulations on your new baby coming home soon! The wait can definitely be torture. |
Welcome! Dolce is adorable...looks just like a little cuddler too. So excited for you and the soon to be love of your life!:D |
Congrats and Welcome!! He is Adorable!! Love the name.... |
Congratulations and welcome :) I will give you your first tip.. when Dolce is old enough to go out far walks and has had all of his needles, you must walk him with his leash attached to a harness and not a collar. The reason for this is because yorkies are prone to a collapsed trachea. Good luck with your pup! |
#1 Puppy proof! You'd be surprised what a Yorkie will fit through, get into same with any puppy-but Yorkies are lil guys so you have to be extra careful you have a secure area! #2 I prefer to use a raised feeder I got mine from Bella Cottage-they are super cheap here and gorgeous! Here's a link 4" White Pet Feeder - The Bella Cottage #3 A lot of people on here prefer Billy Sticks-NO RAWHIDE ever! #4 safe treats for small dogs-I really like Zuke's mini naturals for treats they are specific to small dogs here's a link (honestly though using plain chicken breast you cut yourself works great too) Zukes Mini Naturals – Dog Training Treats, The Perfect Training Treat for Dogs #5 Harness no collar-make sure you have a really good harness-Yorkie's have sensitive necks and collars can irritate their hair and their throats have a sensitive Trachea I use this one for both a car seat and for walking (I also have orange reflective ones I use for walking but this is for when going in the car). This is super cheap here also! Dog Car Safety Restraint Seat Belt Harness 7-15" Chest Pink Camo - eBay (item 350373860862 end time Dec-10-10 18:01:03 PST) (I put the ID tags on the D-ring of the harness just like you would on a collar-get ID tags!) #6 Get your baby microchipped it's a national average of $40 and can bring your baby home and save his/her life! #7 When in doubt post it on YT-people here are awesome and love to help with all kinds of things and advice (I'm one of those who just tells people what I do personally like crate train: use a BIG crate and stick to it! I use my own shampoo as I don't like dog shampoos really etc-I figure people can take or leave my advice but best I say what I really do and open myself up to getting advice about what I do too). Congratulations! We want updates and pics! |
Congrats !!! You will need lots of LOVE TIME AND PATIENCE Patches & Winnie |
Congrats on your new baby! One suggestion, though. If I were you, I would wait until after Christmas to bring him home. Most reputable breeders will not place puppies at Christmas time because of all that is usually going on then. Just something to think about. What's a few more days of anxiously waiting if it means an easier, less stressful transition for your new little bundle of fur?;) |
