There is hope for an ethical dog industry in Canada! 2 great things I heard today! So I was chatting with my breeder today, and learned two things that made me really happy: 1- it appears that the CKC is changing the tail docking standard! I haven't confirmed this in my own research but my understanding is tails will be grandfathered, if they were docked elsewhere or before the change, and new dogs are permitted to have tails! I'm busy studying so I can't look it up, but if anyone has info on this it is greatly appriciated! 2- In Dartmouth NS, I have heard a rumor that Pets Unlimited and Petcetera, are no longer carrying puppies!!!!!! apparently they have gained popularity because of it. Sadly the other local Pets Unlimited did not follow suit yet, but these are baby steps. BRAVO to these two locations, for finally realizing how wrong it is for a dog to be sold in a store. |
Quote from CKC news section: At the September 2010 meeting of the CKC Board of Directors a new CKC Policy Statement on Tail Docking and Dewclaws was reviewed and approved by the Board. This will replace the previous statement on Cropping and Docking. As no CKC Breed Standard has a requirement for cropping the newly approved statement deals only with docking and dewclaws. A separate statement addressing cropping will be presented for Board review at the regularly scheduled December meeting. |
Sounds like a step in the right direction. Peggy, Monkey & Maddie :daisy: |
