virus?
 
I can get on my computer and use word, etc. But I can't get on the internet. It wants me to click on a link to clean off viruses that were found. Wants me to go to a site that costs a good bit to fix (absolute only place on net I can go to). Does this mean I do have a virus? Don't know too much about them but just thought if I had a virus then I wouldn't be able to do ANYTHING on the computer.

I don't know how viruses work but you can have a virus and still be able to use your computer. I just had some serious issues with mine and was basically offline for almost 2 weeks. I kept scanning my computer and the techs still found 3 viruses in my computer. I don't know how or where I could have gotten these from but I am slowly adding different sites so I can figure out where I might have picked up something.

I actually just had a scare last week. My computer was a mess but i did a system restore and deleted whatever "virus" i had. I think you should contact roboyorkie. He's the virus master and can help you. If he can't walk you through help, he can get on your computer remotely.

Hmmm... why don't you just get a MAC?!?! :) hehe.

I love my mac laptop = no viruses. I used to have so many issues w/ my PC laptops.

He helped me too with my son's computer and was relatively inexpensive too. It does sound like you have some type of problem going on that needs to be addressed and removed from your computer. Don't ignore or put it off it will just lead to bigger issues.

Do you run Spybot? That a good program that stops registry changes in addition to your antivirus.

I completely agree with Brit. I have had my Macbook for almost 5 years now, and have had no issues with viruses. I had a top of the line Toshiba for 8 months before it was completely taken over by viruses. I won't ever own a PC again.

I would have your computer scanned for viruses and get it cleaned up.

I'm no expert. My guess is a worm. Denial of service. Don't go to that site again or let them scam you into "fixing" it, because it will go on and on and on. Is it still there when you turn your computer off and then turn it back on again? If so, you're going to have to get it cleaned and everything may need to be completely reloaded.

It is actually Malware and if you pay it wont fix.It just takes your money, it originates from Russia and is a big business for them. If you can get to malwarebites.com they have a program that will take it off for you without a restore. Or if you have all your files backed up you can do a system restore.
I work for Staples and we offer an online removal that can be done and you watch what they do remotely.
I got it and I had to do a system restore. At work we did not offer the online removal yet. I had most of my files backed up and only lost a little.

How do I backup all my files? I can do a system restore but don't want to lose all my pictures, files, etc.

Thanks, it's been a nightmare, between them and then verizon service, ughhh!

Fortunately I have my droid but it's not quite as easy to be on it for an extended period of time as a regular computer.

Love my Mac, no problems at all. Previously I had a Sony and when I switched to Mac I had a hard time because it is soooo simple to use and I was used to working harder to get when I was going and tried to complicate things.

If you have an external hard drive you just basically copy and paste the files you want. You do not need to click each picture, for example just the file that holds all the pictures.
Or you can ask a friend that knows how to do it or pay someone to do it for you.
I save nothing on my computer anymore as I have lost pictures in the past.

Yeah, I have my droid too...but it is nothing like the ease of a computer. Will be so glad when I'm back online again.
