Harness help Can anyone recommend a harness for my Maddie? She is 7 lbs and the harness she has now is the step in type with adjustments for chest and behind the legs. She has learned that if she scrunches her front legs together and turns backwards she can pull and escape her harness. Who says we are the more intelligent creatures??? I don't believe it! |
If the step-in style isn't working for you, you might try a harness vest/dress. There are several vendors here at YT that offer them. Check the Yorkie Items for Sale forum. I absolutely love the style and workmanship of YT member Connie. She has a huge selection and is wonderful to work with. Here's a link to her website http://conniedressmydog.com/ or you can just send a pm to Connie and she'll fix you right up. |
I used the four paws (its a cheapo but reliable) the orange reflective ones and it can be turned and put on "backwards" and used as a no pull forward walking harness (so you walk in front and your dog follows you) finding one that fits correctly (in size) is the most important thing. I'm actually still looking for a better quality one in orange and reflective that can be used to hook the leash either on the back between the shoulders or worn upside down and the leash can be hooked on the front for a leading harness. Don't get me wrong four paws ones are great but I'm not sure how many washes in the machine this material will take would really rather a tougher fabric, and (I can hope right-?) an American made one. Totally going to contact the lady above to see if she can find the material I want hers are soooooooo stinking cute! |
I used this harness for over a year and Gatsby is 6 pounds my best friend has one on her 9 pound dog so even though they look flimsy they are durable(just keep the Velcro clean so it sticks) Mesh Harness Product |
I always use the h harness on my yorkie. These do not choke them and they are made of leather. Check out www.morrco.com Hope this helps you. |
I love harness vests. They are comfortable, too. I know a lady whose little one backed out of a harness, so I understand. Check out the various harness vests at this site to get some idea of what is available: handsnpaws.com: Stylish and Comfortable Dog Harnesses |

I love my step- ins from chattiesmom, you may just need to work on sizing your step in correctly. However if you are still having issues- the Puppia's seem to be pretty difficult to get out of. |
RC Harness We use this RC harness on both of our little babies. They love them, they're light and look really comfortable. - |
We love our Buddy Belts. They are a leather step in style with a buckle around the back. I've found them to be very secure and also durable. |

Thanks everyone. I am going to check out all your suggestions. Knew I came to the right place for help! |
harness vest I got Belle a harness at Petco that looks like a little vest. It's pink striped and she steps into it and it has velcro tabs across the back plus at snap in hook and 2 D rings that the leash goes through, There is no way she can get out of it and it's great if you have to do an emergency lift to get away from a dangerous sitsuation. |
