advice about food. Trixie does not want her RC Trixie doesn't want to eat Her Royal Can in. She used to eat aims, and I changed to rc. At first she ate it fine, and her coat looks much better. She started this little game after I cooked for her once. I cooked enough for three days. After that she refused to eat her dog food. My husband got mad at me because he thinks that cooking for a dog is ridiculous, and made me promised not to do it anymore. He said that his mom, who used to breed schnauzers, told him that once you cook for the dogs, they will never eat dog food again. Is this true? In case I have no choice but to cook for her, can I crush her dog food with the home cooking one? Please tell me quick, I am desoerate. I must say, that she looks very healthy and round, so I know she is not being affected by her hunger strike just jet. I am including a picture of her that I took the day before yesterday. You can upload pictures to the thread, otherwise you have to be a member of facebook to see the pictures. I feed RC just because Joey's so fussy; it was one food he'd eat. If you give them human food, they do like it better, and will find it hard to switch back to dog food. The problem with that is unless you know what you're doing, and suppliment the human food, they will not have a nutritiously balanced diet. If human food is more than 30% of their diet, supplements are necessary. A couple of things you could do would be to stop all treats and human food for a while, and set out the food and take it away after 20 minutes. Do this twice a day for a couple of days and she will start eating. If you are too anxious to wait that long, you can tempt her with a little Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top of the food. Most dogs love it, and it won't ruin them for the real food. You can give occasional human food treats, after a week or so, once she's eating her food. Boiled chicken is great for training, but don't ever give them so much that it ruins their appetite. Dogs will eat when they are hungry, but most dogs learn that if they hold out humans will aways cave in, and that's why some people think the dog will never go back to dog food, but this isn't true, you just have to have more will power than the dog. Just tell yourself, you will be strong for two days . . . |
I had that problem when Tallulah had an upset tummy and I had her on rice only for a day. The next day I added in a tiny bit of cooked, shredded chicken. She picked out and ate all the little chicken shreds and spit out the rice. At her next meal, I put the whole combo in the blender and made a mash of it. She ate every bite. After a couple of days, her vet said to start adding in her regular food. So at each meal, I used a little more regular food and less rice/chicken mix, and blended it. It took several days to get her back 100% on her regular food but it worked. |

I cn't upload pictures to the thread because they are the wrong size, but may be you can see her in this video. My daughter was upset at the dogs in this video. She is usually very gentle with trixie. Ana Shuman | Facebook |

Here's an online picture resizer, Free Online Picture Resizer - Crop and Resize photos, images, or pictures online for FREE! I just had a thought, I wonder if you daughter could be sneaking Trixie some food, but she'd be afraid to admit it? |
I had a similar thought... is she getting satisfied with too many treats so she doesn't feel compelled to eat? If she really hasn't eaten in that long, I suggest you take her to your vet ASAP to be checked. There could be a reason for it and the timing is just coincidental. |
