Need Help with belly bands, they are staining his coat I have a yr old male yorkie who started lifting his leg, so i bought a bunch of belly bands for him. He doesn't wear them 24/7 only when i come home from work which is around 2:30 and I take them off of him right before bed. I always make sure to wipe him after i take them off because the pad is saturated in pee by the time night hits. I tried just not putting the belly bands on him but he is marking everywhere in the house! I have tried many different kinds of pads but none of them seem to hold all of the pee. I just gave him a bath and noticed some of his fur is stained from the pee. Is there anything that can help remove the stains I use Paul Mitchell Pet on him. He isnt neutered yet but he has an appointment on the 19th to get neutered, i know people say that it sometimes helps, but now that we just got a new little girl I am still worried he will still mark because he wants to show her hes the boss. I just really don't want him to have to use belly bands forever. Any advice would be great! |

Do you give him potty breaks? If it's saturated in pee he is peeing in the belly bands, not marking. Marking can be a short pee or just a few drops. Are you teaching him not to mark inside your house? Is he neutered? |
Well you can band the hair so it is to the side of the belly band, but you will have to change the pads a few times a day if needed and outside too. You don't want them to pee in it...just to keep the spraying away and when they spray it is just a few drops, but yes it adds up quick. We also used baby diapers and taped them on...the ends taped together not to the dog. LOL...they really help keeping dry too! |
Do you want to keep his hair long? We keep ours in a puppy cut and I buzz Bandit's belly between groomings because he'll pee on his own stomach hair sometimes lol. Good luck. Would a spread out tampon work if you put that inside the pad? It'd be super absorbable as long as he didn't eat it!!! |

we take him for walks twice a day and we take the belly bands off when were walking them. He just marks constantly, i have noticed once where in 2 minutes hes already marked maybe 5+ places, hes even marked me! lol and he will be neutered on the 19th. |

we keep his coat short, I use overnight pads inside the belly bands and that just absorbed the pee so fast, i might give diapers a try next maybe that will help. |

Hugs to you for his upcoming neuter. It's not fun but it's something we can do for the health of our babies. |
I keep Charlie cut really short or shaved around his privates. He also soaks his belly band sometimes. I try to change his pads quiet often and wipe him down always. After while they will learn not to pee in them. Charlie does really well..sometimes he is soaked and sometimes he is dry. They will learn just keep praising him. He will do well...it just takes time. |

I also use belly bands on my maltese. He had been fixed as a young pup, before I rescued him. He is white so I know about staining. He does not have problems in that area his staining is in the corner of his eyes. I get him groomed every 30 days, but he still gets a red stain in his eyes. Did you say you take him out for walks two times a day? How often does he get to go out to potty? I take mine out about every hour or so. But of course I am home all day. He probably is having a problem with the arrival of his new sister. That could be the problem. Please do get him fixed as soon a you can and her too. There are to many homeless babies out there. I use dawn dish liquid on Romeo's feet and that works good for staining.Try Pose pads that might work better.Good luck |
Does anyone know of a great place that sells belly bands on the cheap? I think I'll need the elastic type for Cooper, I tried to use one of Rizzo's old ones, but Riz is much smaller so it didn't fit. |

The more opportunity he has to potty in the correct place, the less urine in the belly band and the less staining. Best wishes to your little guy for a safe surgery and speedy recovery when he goes in to be neutered. |
