How sleepy is too sleepy for puppy? The only thing he wants to do is sleep. I have to entice him to food and water. I got him to play with a toy twice today...for about 1 minute. Then he sort of drops next to it, curls up and drifts again. Then just before now I got him to play for about 20 minutes. He actually showed some puppy playfulness. Also, I am taking him to the vet tomorrow...I'll ask them about all of this, but would like to ask the yorkie experts (all of you!) first. It's been 6 years since I had a yorkie baby...what do I need to know for the vet visit? He is 10 weeks old and weighs 4 lbs. I think. Huge thanks in advance for the help. |
Hope you find an answer. |
Here is another picture of Peyton! 1 Attachment(s) Here is one of the times I got him to play... |
Make sure you mention this behaviour to the vet. You have experience, and it sounds like you are a bit concerned. My Yorkie was basically full speed ahead from the day I brought him home. Of course there were lots of naps after energetically playing for 15-20 minutes. Is he eating and drinking well? Does he show interest in your other Yorkie? Is he exploring his new environment.? Finally what does the breeder say? Some pups are naturally more laid back than others. |
Bitsy I'm sorry I just realized that you said your pup was deaf, after a quick search on the net I found that sleepiness is associated with deafness. Your vet may have some good suggestions on visually stimulating games you can play with him. |
What about a laser pointer? Those are visual and get some dogs excited. That could help. |
See, this is why I love this forum! I didn't know sleepiness could be associated with him being deaf. Thanks for taking the time to look that up for me. And a laser pointer is a great idea...very visual! Peyton woke up a bit more alert this morning. He ate and drank a little too. Going to vet in an hour. Can't wait to see what they think of my new boy! |
Good luck at the vet today. I'm glad there are such big hearted people to take in a special needs pup. *hugs* for Peyton. :) |
