Help! Wanting a second dog, which breed?! Hello all, it's been a while since I've been on here! I'm the proud owner of Sasha, my little yorkie girl (for almost a year now!) and I'm considering adopting another dog. I would love to get another yorkie, but Sasha cost more than my mortgage and I'm not in the position to spend that much again! Can anyone give me some recommendations as to what breeds work best with yorkies? Should I get a male, as I've read that females might not get along so well (my Sasha is fixed already, BTW)? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! |
Check out these yorkie rescues. There are two in Las Vegas and a whole bunch in Southern California (not too far out of reach for you). They are so adorable. Looking for a New Home... |
I have a chihuahua that has always gotten along with Gypsy. Both small dogs and both females. |
I don't think it matters so much as to the breed of the dog as it the personality of the dog. I agree with some of the others... check on a yorkie rescue! |
Yorkie Yorkie Yorkie :D I know I'm not the greatest help! lol My son has two labs and they all see each other quite frequently and get along great! The only one that is grouchy is my 3 lb little female, Suki. They just give her dog eyerolls when she starts growling. |
3 Attachment(s) I'd check into a rescue. There are many Yorkie and small-breed rescues if you are looking for another small dog. Levi's "cousin" that we live with (my brother's dog) actually came from our local humane society. We have absolutely no clue what kind of mix he is, but he weighs between 20 and 25 pounds. My brother's only requirement was that the new dog get along with Levi. We let them meet before bringing Dallas home, and they have been absolutely inseparable ever since. I feel like the dogs' individual temperaments have so much to do with it! |
some of the shelters in Vegas are unbelievably cheap. Sometimes as little as 10 dollars and that is with utd shots, spay/neuter, everything... call and ask them to notify you when a small breed comes in!!! Also, some work with pups on parole at the correctional center west of town, where the inmates work with them and would make excellent pets. Right now Heaven Can Wait in vegas has a chi/terrier mix that is in the program, I don't know if it is wait listed. But the number of rescues and shelters in vegas is astounding at all price ranges, you'd have no trouble finding the baby of your dreams.. |
Jackson gets along really well w/ alot of Westies -- it's a breed I'm definitely looking into. |
I have a 8 month old male yorkie and a 4 1/4 month old female chihuahua. The chihuahua has been much easier to potty train. |
How about a BIEWER!!!:woof: |
I've been throwing this around as well :) I've got it down to either another Yorkie, a Biewer (I am trying to move to Germany after all :D) a French Bulldog, a Papillion, or a Chi. I'm afraid that a chi wouldn't be able to handle Rizzo's rough play as they seem to come in mostly small packages, I like the idea ofa Papillion because they're so pretty, and they're built about how Rizzo is now and many lists classify them as the smartest of the small dog breeds (but I know better, haha) just means that they're easier to train than say a Yorkie :) I love French Bulldogs, they're beautiful and so full of spunk but I think the size may be too much for Rizzo. The only one we've run into before was a poorly trained female, but Rizzo loved to taunt and run since she couldn't keep up, lol. And a Biewer or Yorkie, for obvious reasons, I love this breed and would love to have a Biewer since they are so pretty :D Good luck with your decision, its a tough one that I keep going back and forth on. |
I would also suggest a chihuahua, I honestly wouldnt mind another chihuahua somewhere wayyyy down the road..lol..I lost my beloved Orphan Annie at the beginning of 2010 and she was wonderful! |
I say get another yorkie... I don't think I'll ever own another breed :p |
My little girl has an Shih Tuz as her older brother. He is so very good with her, even though he is a large shih tuz (25 lbs) he played with remy from the day she came home at 1 lb!! He has so much love for Remy and us-- too much love at times lol:animal36 |
My kids are on the waiting list for a pug i told them they could have a dog to share and the wanted a lab but i had to put my foot down when i noticed how rowdy the puppies wear so then a lady i was gonna get a pug from sold them all so now we are in contact with a pug rescue and when a male comes in that is under two years old we are gonna take a look |
