Dog ramp or stairs Hello, I am looking for a set of dog stairs or ramp. One of my wishes is that it is foam. I measured the bed and it is 32 inches tall which seems to be tall for stairs. I want them because my fur babies jump off the bed onto the wood floor and I worry about their joints. They have to be lifted on the bed. I don't have much room in my bedroom so I was thinking the ramp or (scamp) would be best. If it is foam we won't be stubbing our feet all the time. They look to be very expensive, does anyone have any ideas? Thanks so much!!!:) |
I have Petstairz foam stairs that I bought about 8 or 9 years ago and they are just now starting to look crappy. They are foam and I have been pretty happy with them all this time. I have the 5-stairs up to my bed and they all use them all the time. They weren't cheap but they have lasted. http://www.petstairz.com/ If you want wood ones, Peachbongi posted this thread a while ago about an item she bought on ebay and was very happy with. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...gie-steps.html |
2 Attachment(s) My DH who is very handy built a couple of ramps for my two. I find the ramps to be very helpful and are made of plywood, carpet and 2 x 4's. |
I built a set of stairs for Mabel out of foam and covered it with an old blanket which I attached with double sided carpet tape. She used them for a couple of months and now can actually make it up by herself. I just cut the foam chunks and used chopsticks to hold it together. I knew this was just for short term use but if you have someone who is a bit handy, maybe they could construct some stairs for you. I think a ramp takes up a bit more space but if you have the room, that's also a good option. |
I still have 2 ramps my DH made when he was alive. They are the greatest, covered with carpet and very adaptable to moving around. I lso have a nice little set of doggy steps that are basically a covered plastic framework covered, but they work like a charm too. They are surprizingly sturdy. I think you can get them for $20. There is a product that changes from steps to a ramp on LTD commodities that looks nice and is very inexpensive: Convertible Dog Stairs - LTD Commodities $16 - $18 depending on number of steps. I am thinking about ordering one to check it out. |
We just bought steps for the sofa, it's a two step design. It's wood and covered with carpet. We have tried the plastic ones in the past and they weren't very sturdy. These are great and the dogs used them right away. We paid $59 at the store where we buy their food. (Pet People) |
Wow! You are very creative! The ramp I was thinking of goes kind of sideways, I think it is called a scamper ramp (?) Perhaps I need to visit a craft store and see if they carry foam. I like the chop stick idea! |
Thanks everyone for your ideas! I really appreciate it!!!:aimeeyork |
Just this morning I ordered a ramp for my little girl who has bad LP. Wish I was crafty enough to build it myself but alas. These people seem to have a good selection... Doxie Dog Ramp - Deluxe Wedge Ramp - FREE SHIPPING ON EVERYTHING WE SELL! |
I have the scamp ramps and love them. I think they were about 100.00 |
I bought a pair of steps from Petco. They are the as seen on tv steps....for $19.99. I have also seen them at Petsmart Deluxe Doggy Steps - Dog Stairs and As Seen On TV Dog Steps from PETCO.com |
I have a decorative seat at the end of our bed, and then a step stool so they can jump up... It looks nice, and they have no problem getting up. The seat was from Christmas tree shop but I'm sure home good's would have something like it! |
