Help with house training We have a 16 week old yorkie girl, having a hard time with trying to get her to pee outside, any suggestions? any ideas would be appreciated. |
Get a long ribbon and sew some big bells on it. Hang it on the door knob. Take your doggie to the door and ask her if she wants to go potty. Take her paw and hit the ribbon so the bells ring. After she potties, make a really big deal of it. We call it the potty dance! Jump up and down with joy, if you have to. Just let her know that what she's done is the greatest thing in the world. You can even give her a reward if you wish - like a cheerio! Take her out often, especially 20-30 minutes after eating and perhaps sooner if she's been drinking quite a bit of water. Be consistent and you will succeed. She will quickly learn to hit the bell, but she will use her nose. |
Mabel is just about 7 months old and is pretty much house trained. We started with going for walks about 8 times a day, about every couple of hours. Now we are down to 4 walks a day - I think they start realizing that they get tons of praise for going outside and the tone of voice is quite disappointed when they go inside. We never used pee pads; just lots of walks in the beginning. Good luck! |
