I found Roxie's Kryptonite I really think Roxie doesn't like wearing clothes. Yesterday I put her fleece on her and she was a complete mope all day long. She slept all over the place and didn't even want to play. This morning I took the fleece off to wash, and she is like a brand new dog. She's playing and running and jumping all over the place. She's done this before and I guess I never put two and two together. Is it possible that the clothing really bums her out? |
Of course! It isn't only possible, but it sounds like she hates clothes. She may feel she's being punished for something. Since they cannot speak as you and I, they do a darn good job of speaking in many other ways, if we pay attention to them.:D |
I just never thought of it since she never tries to get it off, and she doesn't bite at it or anything. |
If I put anything on my Pebbles, she just freezes. She won't walk!! The only one who loves clothes is my Coco because he thinks he's going in the car  |
I bought this Party collar for Harley with jingle bells on it for Chirstmas and he hates having it on... but he loves to see it cause every time I take it out, I'd hold it and first if he walked towards it, I gave him a treat. Then after a few times, if he sniffed it, I'd give a treat, then I'd put the treat on it, and then through it and then give him treats for walking in it... He associates the collar with treats. You could try that, I think my trainer called it Shaping. |
Thor's first owner had him dressed up all the time and he seemed fine with it. Then I noticed that he moved around a lot less when I put clothes on him, and over time, he's become a nudist. You might want to check the fit. If it's tight somewhere, it may be restricting her movement. |
Morgan loves to wear clothes. She even helps by putting her head in the hole and then lifting up each paw so i can get them in the sleeve. However, if she is wearing an outfit with a hood and i try to put it on her head because its cold or raining she will freeze and melt to the ground. Its like she cannot function with a hood on and she completely shuts down. I can put it on in the house and walk away for a few minutes and she will still be in that same spot when i come back. she does the same thing if she has an e-collar on. |
Cooper doesn't mind any clothing but Max just started getting the zoomies anytime I try to put a piece of clothing on him. Once he settles down, I could put a shirt or sweater on him but he's very picky. If it's a material he doesn't like he will rub up against all the furniture, cabinets, etc. If he doesn't mind it he's fine. |
Dogs sure can be funny about clothes. My first Yorkie hated them, and would freeze up on walks if I put even a light shirt on him in the cold or rain. My current guys love their warm coats when it's cold. I think it comes down to a training issue, if you really want your Yorkie to wear clothes in doors and they decide it's not for them! I prefer the natural fur look, since Yorkies are so adorably cute, especially with a good old fashioned pet cut, IMO, why cover them up? |
Jackson doesn't mind -- but I don't dress him a whole lot. In the winter though, he does wear a coat most of the time because it's so cold here and he likes it. He's really cute, he lifts his little paws into the sleeves, lol. |
We bought some cute baby onsies at a yardsale to cut into shirts for the colder weather. My daughter put one on and snapped it over Ziva's tail - you would think she was being tied down! But.. she "grumbles" when we try to take it off? |

Lizzy does this too. She even does it when I put a new halter on her. :) |
Hammer will literally not move when I put his shirts on. I've seen him be a statue for 10 MINUTES straight until I took it off. |
What kills me is THE LOOK I get from Jenna when I have to suit her up for anything...this means jackets, hoodies, sweaters or her booties. Even her harness and lead get a look of disdain. You'd think I'd just shot Bambi's mother or something, she throws me such a sad, mopey glare that silently bespeaks my evil for the suffering I'm causing her. >.< Honestly though, it's taken awhile but she will eventually get moving outdoors with clothes on. I just know we both can't wait for spring when she will get her puppy cut and be able to go nekky. ^_^ (Me, I'll still have clothes on...lol.) I agree that some of her jackets can just get to be too much in the layers department, but where we live at this time of year I can't see taking her outside without one! She also hates the hoods. I think Yorkies have a built-in tendency to want their ears to go free. She reminds me of that little kid in Christmas Story whose mom over-bundles him and he whines, "I can't put my arms down!" It's a shame...she sure looks nice in some of these outfits. :( |
