Swollen Eyes Taycie had a "playdate" with my cousins yorkie who is 5 months. They played together quite some time and they had a great time!. Now all of the sudden I am noticing she is having a hard time keeping her left eye open. All has been well today. Nothing out of the norm, and her eyes are not goopy. I put some drops in it that I had left over from the vet when she had conjuctivis and will call the vet first thing in the a.m. Any thoughts? |
First off, I would not try to self medicate. Using left over meds it just not wise so please do not continue to do so. I'm not a vet but it sounds like he might have a scratched cornea which is very painful. Make sure you get him in to your vet first thing tomorrow to be seen and treated. Good luck and keep us posted. |
I have no ideas, but I hope she'll be ok soon. Hopefully, when you wake up tomorrow, maybe it will be back to normal. You still need to have it checked though. |
swollen eye I agree with the scratched cornea, it can happen fairly easily. Your vet can see it better and give you some ointment. I'm sure it will be fine.:) |
I agree with the advice given above, have your vet take a look at Taycie's eye because it could be a scratched cornea. Maximo is being treated for an eye ulcer (hole in outer layer that may have started as a small scratch) this week. Scratches and ulcers can be caused by a number things, i.e. a paw to the eye, getting hair or dirt stuck in the eye. Dogs with scratches or ulcers are very sensitive to light, which causes them to squint. Maximo had very little discharge. I first noticed that the white of his eye was red and irritated. He was a little mellower than usual because he was in tremendous pain. As Megansmomma wrote, self-medicating is risky. The leftover medication could make things worse and cause your baby more pain. Stick to sterile saline (no fancy eye drops) until you see the vet. |
I just got home from the vet. Turns out it was conjuctivis again. Gave me some more meds. They did do a eye exam to see if she had a scratch cornea but it came out she was fine just conjuctivis. We are on the mend and here eyes already look better. |
Hope she is over it soon. Glad she saw the dr and you have an answer and meds to help it. You're a good mommy!:) |
