Female yorkie acting like a male :eek:I was playing with Macy on the floor the other night and felt her sitting on my leg. I looked down and she was "getting friendly" with my leg. If I wouldn't know better I would have thought she was a male. She was spayed at 6 months. Does anyone else have this happen with their girls? This has happened twice since then. What is going on? |
After Nala was almost 1 1/2 years old she would randomly hump her stuffed dragon. It's the only thing she humps, she's never humped a human or another dog, but I too was floored because she was a girl. |
When a dog humps they are showing dominance and it's not sexual. |
I have a yorkie male now, but had a female boston and yes she too humped her babies! or a pillow.. |
I'm glad to hear Macy isn't a freak. I was starting to wonder if I needed to find a therapist for her to set her straight. |
Uni humps all the time, but her beds only and never people or other dogs. She was spayed last week and she's right back to where she was. i think she thinks it's work out time. |

Sophie Kate will hump my arm also (yes that sweet little face in my avatar does that). I was freaked out at first and asked my Vet why, like the other said it is dominance. The advice I was given is do not make a big deal out of it, just remove her from your arm. The only person she does this to is me, no one else. I feel so lucky. |
My little lady has one toy, a stuffed monkey, that she humps multiple times per day. Never humps anything else. At first I thought it was disgusting - now I think it is absolutely precious. Youtube has tons of videos of yorkies humping stuffed animals, so it must be fairly common. |
Both of my girls have tried to hump my cat.........as if the cat didn't like them much to begin with - they're certainly not making any points now! |
My moms yorkie Dolce also humps random things so your not alone. |
I am glad you posted this, Celine hasn't done that yet but it is good to know. The odd thing is, she started lifting her leg when she goes potty! lol |
My Apple has never humped anything in her life :D..I'm serious, not once...When Buzz first came, he tried humping Apple, and she put a stop to it, toot sweet lol...Now, once in a while, Cha Cha will hump Apple, and she doesn't stop her?...What'sup w/that! And it might be a sign of dominance, but Apple is the queen bee, alpha alpha alpha, around here...hands down... |
Lil Muffin had a stuffed doggie that she did that to all of her life. The stuffed doggie had been washed and dried so many times that he had shrunk and was threadbare, but I could never take it away from her. She loved that little stuffed doggie more than any toy. I had given it to her when she was a puppy. She wagged him around with her everywhere she went. We always referred to it as "Doggie". I'd ask her where "Doggie" was and she'd go get it and bring it to us.:) |
Wow :O now that's news to me. The female maltese I had never did that O_O''... I do not own a yorkie yet, hopefully soon though, so I guess it's good to know these things ahead of time because I know I would've freaked out for sure LOL ! :) Still cute though. *-* |
Rosie and Lillie both humps Sammie my cat. Poor Sammie just stands there with a funny look on his face. Like, are you finished yet????? I tell them no but they still do it every day. People that come to my house thinks it is the funniest thing they have ever seen. Me. I do not even notice it any more. |
Yep -- its a dog thing, not a male thing. My female dachshund used to hump pillows like crazy. Drove me crazy. I would take them gently away and try to redirect her attention to play with a toy, but she would just go back to it another time. She would look at me so guilty while she continued to do it, like "I can't help myself, I'm sorry!" My Jack Russell has done it to a toy or two but she has never had the "habit" like my late dachshund did. Both were spayed before they ever had a litter. |
Roxie humps her bed and the cat. Go figure, but once I notice what she is doing , I make her stop...I too think its dominance. But its funny because she does not bark alot, etc she seems so laid back to want to be dominant..lol..And the sad thing is that the cat lets her do it..omg..these crazy animals |
Its dominance not sexual. Poppy has humped her stuffed toys twice, I was worried at first too and was totally checking out her girly bits to make sure she wasnt a boy LOL! Having her spayed wont make a difference because shes not doing it for sexual reasons. :) |
Penny only humps my husbands arm. She won't hump me. I wonder if that means Penny see's my husband as more dominant than I. |

But it is true, it's a dominance thing. My golden retriever used to try to hump the cat as well... although as you can imagine it didn't work so well. As long as they are not humping my guests I don't mind! ;) |
Humping isn't always about dominance. Like barking, it can serve many purposes: - It feels good. - It's relaxing. - In the right circumstances, it makes puppies. - It can be a deplacement activity, like sniffing. In this case, it relieves social anxiety. This site has a bunch of good articles on humping, and dog behavior in general. Humping is Normal, Yet Rude and Lewd | Dog Star Daily |
OK, so Macy doesn't need a therapist. She only likes my lower leg when I'm laying on the floor and she can sit on it. She gets this look on her face like she can't understand why I move my leg and not let her get her workout in. I try not to make a big deal out of it and make her quit but she doesn't seem to be letting up. She only does this to me, not my dh. |
sadie has recently started to mount her brother. she used to kinda sorta mount up on a leg if you were sitting on the potty with ur legs crossed she's mount the leg that's swinging. she didn't hump just mounted it. i don't allow her to do that anymore but since having her brother she will mount up on him all the time. she'll kinda rub at him but doesn't fully hump him. she will mount his side, his head, his back, anything to show she's above him...i just let her play because he doesn't seem to care that she's the boss of him. |
my little girl beau, she humps my dh, i say to him that she is the boss over you, she even jumped up on the back of sofa and grabbed his mum round the neck, humped away and she could nt get her off,[ and she is a christian, cud u imagin]:eyetearss |
girls humping Belle does it to my DH when she wants to play. He always looks at me like WTH? I told him it was a dominance thing and she is letting him know that he IS going to play with her. She also lifts her leg when she pees on her pee pad. I think our girls are being liberated! |
